Elon Musk is the citizen of three different countries. South Africa, his home country. Canada and the United States. Elon maintains citizenship in all three. He is an agent provocateur in every one. He doesn't live in the U.S. on the same terms as the rest of us.

Yesterday, Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynn Williams revealed that even though she sat in silence on stage at the Hay Festival with me & Tim Wu, Facebook sued her anyway. EVEN THOUGH SHE DIDN'T SAY A WORD!! 🤯 4/

The trans women in sports panic has got to be one of the GOP's most successful manufactured culture war campaigns. Somehow they got a lot of people who would otherwise say they support trans rights to somehow fear "fairness" in sports. It's a non-issue.

7/ An expert explained that losers like me are the bettors that sports betting companies are most interested in. A small group accounts for a large portion of revenue. And what keeps losers loyal? VIP programs. The more you bet, the more you get: free bets/swag/fancy dinners.

Fundamental Generative LLM problems: 1) Context gets too deep causes model collapse. 2) Bias to find a path causes hallucinations. 3) It can't invent anything fundamentally new. 4) It's impossible to prevent prompt injection. There is no separate control and data plane. This is a number 4.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I think it's just this. They aren't thinking hard about it and deciding on a fiendish "who are you going to vote for" or "two wings of the same bird" scheme. They're just absolute idiots who hate the idea of standing for anything. Just blindly do the process, make compromises, run fundraisers.

i really think democratic politicians are all just addicted to making compromises. they can't get enough! they would broker a compromise between jeffrey dahmer and his victim to let dahmer eat just a forearm

Republicans: I don't care if I can't afford to put gas in my car or feed my family, because it's more important that I virtue signal by screaming about communism. I have no idea what communism is but the propagandists told me its bad, and my identity as a Republican is more important than anything.

The dishonest things that BBM has done in the pursuit of all that traffic are genuinely mind-blowing. One of the wildest: it's often created completely fake writers, and slapped their names on vast amounts of content that's completely AI-generated

Along the way, BBM has indulged in breathtaking acts of dishonesty — often in ways that seem specifically devised to manipulate platforms owned by Google, where Ahrefs data suggests that it sources the preponderance of its traffic. (Last year, BBM wrote in a press release that its enormous audience was “driven by organic reach through Google Discover and search.”)

One of BBM’s many unscrupulous practices, insiders confirmed to us, is that it has often invented entire fake personas for nonexistent writers — we found more than 50 spread across its dozens of sites — and published content under their names without revealing to readers that they weren’t real people.

As I said the first time Trump proposed tariffs: this is precisely why he likes them! It makes everyone come to him on bended knee, begging for exemptions. It makes economic survival dependent on his whim. That, not any economic theory, is the whole attraction. Mafia boss thinking.

While Sen. Katie Britt was publicly defending Trump's tariffs, she was privately seeking exemptions for 4 companies operating in Alabama that could be hurt by tariffs, according to emails between her staff & Trump's US Trade Representative, obtained via FOIA by @wsj.com. www.wsj.com/opinion/kati...

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

Are they going to next legislate that all time travel needs to be viewing only? The generative AI that all these companies are selling can't do this, it can't ever become intelligent. The structure of it means it's just not possible. But AI companies have sold it based on the lie that it could.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com · 4w ago

We watched social media become the Wild West and waited for legislation that never really came. We can’t repeat that with AI. We need guardrails. Congress is finally debating safeguards, including stronger oversight and a human-controlled “kill switch.” Jeffries is calling for urgent action…
