One big thing I think people could do if they care about waste at work is advocate for less meaningless business travel. I've pushed on this kind of policy before. The amount of completely unnecessary business air travel that happens is wild.
Having vigorous disagreements is not the only valuable kind of socializing, nor is it the only way to learn anything. Hope this helps.
