Guys will listen to male influencer bullshit about needing to have a six pack and manipulate everyone and meanwhile women will go “you know who is the sexiest fucking guy I’ve ever seen?” and post this

Soothing tropical night sounds for you - below my window x Keralam, Induq
These are for you - with drops of monsoon rain on them. Alappuzha, Kerala kerala.me/environment/... if you want to know more
This is an important principle for - perhaps - all but a very small number of people: make your book part of a creative portfolio. Me, broadly: 1. Mentor and teacher. 2. Occasional lecturer 3. Editor 4. Write across genre, but also form - and starting more commercial work under a pen name
Try to make this book part of a broader creative portfolio - maybe you organize an online event, write a few short stories, start a writing group, whatever it might be: this is very good for morale, improves perspective & takes the weight off one single book, one like a sword of Damocles above you

It’s where your book meets market, meets taste, meets timing. (Or possibly meets not very good advice in the first place - hides; runs away).
For querying writers & #writingcommunity I see people across socials who are upset that they cannot find an agent/indie publisher despite having glowing professional feedback on their novel - such as a manuscript review or assessment. They don't understand how this can be and feel something's amiss
On writing and publishing…being not quite the same thing and thoughts on coping. Although things can always change and sometimes suddenly, for a sustainable career as a published writer for the vast majority of people, the best approach is one of portfolio - in which writing a book is one part 💙📚
1. There are no guarantees 2. Publishing pros are frequently dealing with vast numbers & that limits time for something that doesn't strike home. 3. Writing and publishing are interlinked of course, but ALSO separate. See point 1. A fine book may not get attention in the way you had hoped, assumed

I try not to overdo this bit but ... my man is begging for it. Let's go.
Miller: "It's not a coincidence that when you look at these violent Antifa demonstrations not one of the people that is demonstrating looks like a normal person. Not one looks normal. They're all deformed in some way in their appearance, in their dress, in their mannerism." #cdnpoli

uh no @newyorker.com also “aim to level that imbalance” is a weird way to say “scrape more data for the tech oligarchy”
Research shows that mothers in heterosexual partnerships take on a disproportionate amount of the mental load involved in raising children and running a household. New A.I.-powered family assistants aim to level that imbalance. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/bxUx9T

It feels like I've read nothing but wall-to-wall horror, gothic and folklore books for as long as I can remember and I'm suddenly weirdly craving some McEwen/Amis-esque nonsense about some bloke walking around London with a broken shoelace worrying about his life or something like that.
Opening up a judgement free zone but what's the smallest thing that discouraged you from entering into a vast cultural landscape that others have found vastly rewarding. Mine was discovering that the hero/protagonist of Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash was called Hiro Protagonist.
