RNZ framing this as a wily Peters evading comments, rather than as a coward who refused to answer questions and abused the rules of the house to do so is just par for the course in the current media environment, sadly

The Public Service Commissioner is in one corner trying to tell the Public Service Association what they can and cannot say politically, and then we have Mr CEO of the country using public services to get to and from party political events like that’s just fine and ok

Not for *government duties* for his role as leader of the National Party for a party *fundraiser* for the *election* Surely this is outside the bounds of what the Air Force should be used for?? Seems like an enormous breach of his access to public assets! www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

I'm a bear of little brain, but in my book taxpayers should not be picking up the bill for any MP to travel to and from party political events, like election fundraisers or party conferences. Either they do it at their own expense, or from party funds. End of line. #nzpol

The lack of self reflection from media on their own biases absolutely results in the current government being held to lower expectations - to the detriment of the public, particularly vulnerable communities, and consistent, escalating erosion of democratic norms.

hate to keep doing this, & it has ALWAYS been true, but the double standard for left vs right politicians by the media & other institutions has become WAY too stark now if this was a left wing PM we would have rolling coverage for WEEKS - hauling in veterans & air force supporters to attack etc etc

Hard agree, the ‘it doesn’t cost the taxpayer anything’ line doesn't fly here! Because it sure as shit costs the taxpayer money. The fact he criticised PM use of military assets when in opposition, and stated he wouldn’t really shows you his true colours.

Can you imagine if Ardern had done the same thing? She would have been on the front page for weeks on end and nobody would have talked about anything else until they had her resignation.

Christopher Luxon defends using Air Force flight to attend National Party fundraiser

Christopher Luxon is defending his use of an Air Force flight after attending a National Party fundraiser, saying he has a "busy job" and "full schedule".

I’m prepared to go to jail for free speech, they can’t tell me what to do! What’s the speech? I took it down to comply with court orders

Just to get this clear, it's more politically disqualifying in the UK to have been a supporter of the Leader of the Opposition between 2015 and 2019 than it is to have been a neo-nazi convicted of harassing a Jewish MP and inciting racial hatred against Jews.

said it numerous times over last 5 years but if either Peters or Seymour had even 10% of the pressure put on them that leftwing MPs deal with theyd absolutely implode given that this has never happened, its partly why i believe that National/ACT are briefing media against NZF & giving “permission”

Media's mission should be to keep on prodding the bear - we need to see more of the thinly veiled racist so there's no doubt just how deep in the swamp these fuckers have sunk

I went to remonstrate and discovered a bunch of vile old boomers vomiting up the usual stuff about "cockroaches" and actively fantasising about injuring people with their cars. It was a salutary glimpse into another world. And then I unfriended Digby Paape. Fuck these people are weird.

in every context ive seen AI used the number one overwhelming result has been the users becoming loudly and confidently wrong about whatever theyre using AI for at some point you just have to consider that its the purpose of the technology to create people like this

"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.

I haven't heard people talking about this, but AI is an absolute game changer for doing historical research. History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts— a massive logistical/memory problem made so delightfully easy with agentic research. 1/

I did an OCR conversion of all my PDFs to make text files, built a semantic search index, and can just let my agents roam free to answer questions, fact-check, dig up interesting stories, quotes, etc. It takes a lot of the hard work out, as well as a lot of the human error. 2/2
