The future is up for grabs. The world we live in is awful but the one we're building is worth it. Bringing my whole self to the apocalypse. Director of Development @distributeaid.org he/they, often a newcomer views my own trust + supplychains + tech 🚛💻🏴🖤
and ya know what, I actually AM angry that this is happening. This isn’t an Act of God. This was an entirely preventable crisis. And now we, the COMMUNITY, are yet again paying for the greed of a few. #SpokaneComplexFire
"Ralph de la Torre should be tried and then executed for his crimes." Bro BSky will ban you for the most mild "let's follow the process" takes. 🤦
Matthew Cortland has been suspended from bsky for, you guessed it, bullshit reasons. Bsky continues to protect the rich from getting their feelings hurt while consistently banning those who advocate for the marginalized and vulnerable. Follow Matthew on Patreon or ShouldntNeedToBeALawyer.com

discovering that there is a thing called “a government” that we all pay into that provides an array of services that some of us need at different times of our lives
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
They want you to forget that you took care of yourselves and others im 2020 because they want you to be helpless and frightened in the face of the violence and robbery theyre doing
when 50000 people risk their lives on the shadow of a chance to maybe maybe make it to the EU and maybe maybe not get kicked outagain, maybe there's a dire reason for that, and maybe we should help them instead of driving them out
I'm not entirely convinced that "DON'T WORRY, ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE OUT AGAIN" is the best line of argument but hey, I'm just an immigrant
Our mutual aid distro ran out of hot meals in 25 minutes last night. Usually, it takes 90 and we’ve even had leftovers to put in community fridge. People are frantic for any donations we have to distribute. The increased precarity is palpable.
it's not just that means testing unfairly gatekeeps care from people on the edges of the economic goldilocks zone. the logic ripples out through culture and influences how we talk about poverty, race, and disability. we do not talk about helping people without first talking about who not to help.
If you're curious about how the right is going to try to frame the horrific fires in Spokane Washington, it looks like they plan to blame them on homeless people, local (DEM) city leadership, and state (DEM) mismanagement of forests. So, many of the same frames as the LA fires.
It is pretty sad that so few people actually believe in open borders
When politicians say they oppose ICE but propose more local police, their objections to ICE are based solely on optics/aesthetics.

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
It should be 100% illegal to use AI to make deepfakes of candidates for political ads.
Is MySpace for real coming back. And if so, are all the music tracks capped at 2005.
"But my nostalgia! But my favorite morning word game! But this mid video game! But my sport! But my chicken sandwich!" Hey, real quick, what ARE you willing to give up to not support our oppressors?
Damn this hurricane season you won't get help from FEMA or insurance. Good thing @distributeaid.org will still be responding to hurricanes! But we need your help to prepare- donate today. distributeaid.org/donate

Faced with an insurance sector buckling under rising costs from extreme weather damage, Florida made it harder for consumers to sue for low payouts. It’s a change that other states are now looking to replicate, even as homeowners lose out. Read more: bloom.bg/4fNjVya 📷: Marco Bello/Bloomberg
“In reporting from 2023 that was resurfaced this wk, Prison Legal News revealed Taylor Farms w/contracting labor f/Arizona DOC for the low price of $4.75/hr— far ⬇️ the cost of a non-incarcerated wrkr. And to be clear, that’s not the hourly wage paid to the inmate, which is capped at $1.50 in AZ.”
I won't be buying Taylor Farms anymore. "It turns out that Taylor Farms, the agricultural company widely believed to be behind the cyclospora outbreak currently raging throughout the US, is also heavily involved in modern-day forced labor." futurism.com/science-ener...

Every year that goes by, I'm increasingly convinced that adults need summer camps too
why is everything in Midwest cities a 10 minute drive away from everything else 😭 I've spent more time driving then actually doing these errands
saw a bunch of people arguing with an obvious troll / debate bro who had 0 posts and followed 5 people and... y'all I really miss 2023 when we just all blocked the fuckers until all they could do was stare at their reflection in the void
can we sometimes be asking "what qualifies this guy to speak on this subject?" or has that ship sailed
