Below this are 4 key stats relating to DA's work in the 12 month time period

We were very happy to facilitate the donation of a pallet of toothpaste (that’s just about 10,000 travel-sized tubes!) earlier this month! The 10,000 tubes have gone from Ireland to @christianrefugeerelief in the Netherlands

A box of travel sized toothpaste tubes sits on a pallet of taped up cardboard boxes.

The dispenser section of the box is open, showing the toothpaste tubes inside. The box has the Colgate logo on, and text reading 'protect from future oral health problems'. The name of the product 'Total, active prevention' is also visible, surrounded by multicoloured wave designs.

What happens when aid supplies reach their destination? 📦 Thanks to World Centric, ALAN, Afya, and Lifting Hands International, who have previously pre-positioned supplies with us at strategic locations.

Volunteers sort and stack donated supplies, including toilet paper and bottled water in a large garage style room with peeling ceiling paint.

400 packs of period products are on their way to communities recovering from disaster 🫂 Some of the supplies are heading to Gary Indiana, to support people recovering from last month’s storm, and the rest will be pre-positioned in Athens, Georgia, ready for when they’re needed.

✈️15,000 critical medical items picked up for Lebanon 🩺 We rarely send shipments by air, but with Israel’s continued attacks and medical supplies critically low, the scale of urgent medical need across Lebanon remains huge ❤️‍🩹

3 weeks after a powerful storm caused widespread flooding and destruction in Indiana, recovery efforts are far from over. Residents in the Black-majority community of Gary were left without power for almost 2 weeks, forcing businesses to close and preventing reliable access to food and water.

What do ‘strong borders’ actually do for ordinary people? Our latest newsletter explores how borders are weaponised to scapegoat migrants, and why systems built to ‘protect’ by excluding others ultimately leave everyone more vulnerable.

On the right is an image of a refugee in Calais offering aid workers a cup of tea, holding a filled mug above a saucepan and ladle heated on a fire.

On the left, a quote from DA's newsletter reads "If you're an ordinary person... the truth is that no border works in your favor. A cage is a cage, and one day you too may find yourself on the wrong side. If that happens, your fate could be determined by the kindness and courage of ordinary people."

Access to healthcare shouldn’t depend on who you are or where you live. 🏥🩺 We recently helped facilitate the delivery of an ultrasound machine to a clinic in Zarqa, Jordan, where it will help provide vital care to 90-120 women each month.

Chicago’s Brave Space Alliance recently joined our HRT Toolkit Project as an assembly hub - here’s a few snaps from their recent kit build 🏳️‍⚧️✊ Thank you to all the incredible folk there for demonstrating what true community looks like!

Two volunteers assemble HRT kits at a table, putting supplies into ziploc plastic bags. One of the people has brown curly hair and is wearing a yellow and green 'Brasil' shirt. The other has dark brown hair tied in a bun, and wears glasses and a black dress.

What’s it really like working in the humanitarian aid sector? In this month’s newsletter, we speak to Madi Williamson, executive director at Insight Collaborative - an organisation that trains humanitarian leaders around the world.

"Burnout in the humanitarian aid field is not like burnout in the corporate or academic setting. Lives are at stake, and mistakes can mean that people don't eat
(or worse)."

Next to the quote, a photo shows a person lifting cardboard boxes onto a wooden palette. The person is wearing pale blue jeans, a white and red jacket and a red beanie. Behind them, stacks of palettes and supplies suggest a busy warehouse setting.

Notable NorCal fire: 50+ acre #WoodsideFire is burning in heavy timber between Hwy 1 & Pacific Ocean & has forced some evacuations in western Sonoma County. It is wind driven (25 gust 35mph) in moderately dry heavy fuels despite mild temps/moderate humidity. Smoke widely visible.

A recent warehouse fire in West Virginia left nearby communities dealing with toxic smoke and hazardous residue even after the fire was put out. Thanks to supplies we had pre-positioned in Atlanta, a volunteer was able to drive masks and gloves up to support the clean-up response.

We're looking for people to join our tech team across a range of roles and projects! If you're interested, drop an email to join@distributeaid.org with a short expression of interest and description of any past experience. More roles in the thread ⬇️

We’re looking for Data Scientists to help merge historical & realtime data in service of predictive modeling for aid needs and enable decision support for our ops and admin teams to improve “just in time” aid distribution.

Build our data pipeline & infrastructure to connect and correlate data from across our toolchain. This will enable other tools to utilize each other’s data, as well as allow us to provide personalized donor impact reports (think “Spotify wrapped” for your humanitarian contributions).

Expectations:
Volunteer commitment: ~5h/week
Work in a team: Collaborate at our weekly tech hangs & monthly sprints
No previous OSS experience neededWe’re looking for Backend Developers to work on our Strapi API. You will build production infrastructure for data processing, storage, and query operations. Data modeling is great, but it doesn’t matter if the infra isn’t reliable!
