Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.

this brand new imaginary definition of academic standards that is morally beholden to never "swing" at whatever is popular regardless of its relationship to history & reality is straightforward unvarnished anti-intellectualism and anti-knowledge. you might as well make genAI slop.
"if something is popular, then you are REQUIRED to be uncritically effusively positive about it, for the sake of all academia. what? no not THAT guy's funny pedantic blog about historical inaccuracies in fantasy movies. come now, we all know why it's okay when male academics do it."
"women academics are MORALLY OBLIGATED to lend their own credibility to white men who have not earned it."
"this is a standard i have never, and WILL never, as long as i live, apply to male academics, for mysterious reasons i will also never self-examine about or admit to"
"you have to use your professional credibility to praise pop culture fluff made by white men regardless of your actual feelings about it, or else it's a moral failing"
If the academy gets pulled into coming out swinging against the biggest adaptation of Homer in probably a couple generations off the back of one prominent scholar deciding to be Reviewer 2 to Nolan's work, it will say, IMO, pretty damning things about academia's ability to foster public engagement.
My SNP MP actually replies to my emails with like.... actual human responses, and seems very onboard with protecting the environment, and after having a TERF as my MP in England, the difference is fucking stunning.
I just read Columba's Bones by David Grieg, and my friends, you all need to read this book, it is AMAZING. Def one for fans of wierd mystic fiction like Cuddy, For Thy Great Pain and similar #ColumbasBones #bookreview #booksky
REMEMBER The guidance coming into effect today doesn't dictate what you're allowed to do as an individual. It for service providers and business owners. Do not cower in fear, do not reduce yourself, do not isolate, that is one of the intended effects.
Damaging new guidance from the EHRC will shut out Trans people from daily life simply for existing, and anyone who doesn't conform to narrow ideas of how people should look could face suspicion and confrontation. We are taking a stand against this attack on human rights.
Solidarity and love to my trans friends who today, like me and my autistic friends yesterday, are once again having their right to exist litigated in the media
Screenshot so as not to give the OP the airtime (obvs have reported and blocked) - sharing so you can all block his racist ass too If you want to critique a books content go for it, but 'the author isn't white/ of anglo heritage' isn't critique, its just fucking racism.
Here's the latest #bookreview on #BooksAndBothies - 'Until The Sand Claims Us' by Israh Azizi #netgalley #ARC #booksky
Book Review: Until the Sand Claim Us by Israh Azizi
I was sent an Advance Review Copy of this rather interesting novel from Israh Azizi, which is due out in early September. The story is set in an early modern, vaguely fantasy themed Middle Eastern setting, and alternates between the point of view of the female main character 'The Bodyguard' and the male main character ''The Prince'. I wasn't wild about the flipping POV's in the early chapters of the book, but given this is a solid 'enemies to lovers' story, it works better as the story progresses

I am just not impressed by Elon Musk. Never honestly got it; Stephen Jobs always had that Turtleneck Charm, at least.
Everytime, I think about the lectures on BlueSky, I pretty much end it up here. I will add to that; The Nazi Racist Trillionaire Running a 17 Children Sex Cult. At this point, anyone on Twitter, is going to be end up being an interviewee on a Netflix Documentary.
I think I just prefer the place that is not run by the Nazi trillionaire
Myne owne hot take on *The Odyssey* ys that thys ys oon of those instances, verilye as rare as the teeth of a henne, when one movye sholde yn facte have been two movyes.

I'd have a wedge of soft white cheese, the one with nuts in it, and one, no two, of Friar Furdle's fresh nutfarls, straight from the oven.
Qatar FA coming out and saying they 100% back Infantino is one of those "Thanks lads, but you're not helping" moments for him.
I can’t believe that Reform UK turned out to be financed by a bunch of money laundering fronts for Russia. It’s just so unexpected.
I have zero opinions about who should be the 2028 nominee at this point (you have to finish your 2026 midterm before you can have dessert) but I am all for normalizing the idea that the fight needs to be about how many seats we're adding to SCOTUS and what channel we air the corruption trials on

A society that vilifies scientists and healthcare workers for trying to save lives is a society determined to destroy itself.
It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.
Chatgpt ys the opposite of educacioun. It ys rustinge and dulling our skilles, draininge the knowledge from ower heades lyke sap from trees, makinge us clayme pieces of writinge as our owne when thei are the plagiarism spoor of a nastye heart-free machyne.
"Data centers bring jobs..." makes me laugh as spouse of IT person responsible for an international organization. Their data center is 2,000 miles away. EVERY THING is done remotely. There's nobody there. Nobody is making that daily commute.
“How dare you suggest we be careful as trans people they go after us no matter what we do” yeah because the situation is so volatile and they pounce on everything is exactly Why taking care is required. Its a call to not be reckless, not to be a model minority
Seeing people criticising this as a kind of tone policing or call for politeness and i dont think it is, to me its more dont get in trouble for something stupid, like if you are going to be in trouble have it be for something meaningful rather than foolishly saying something bloodthirsty
