truly the thing that stands out with Doom (and Half Life, and Quake, and Marathon, and--) is that we used to let level designers be bastarding little tricksters in a way that even the Good Level Design shooters of the 2010s onwards forgot

Jank is really good. It has something of the PCZONE about it, which I genuinely think is the highest praise games writing can get. Have they interviewed me? No. Have they covered my games? Also no, which is why I hope they don't last a second 6 months but if they somehow DO you should follow along.
