We should have a memorial day for COVID. It is horrific that we as a society have done virtually nothing to remember the millions who have died. Rushing to forget what happened also makes it much more likely that we will continue to repeat our deadly mistakes.

When many people state that the lockdowns caused the deepest depression they’ve ever experienced, just a reminder that many disabled people are still in lockdown, five years later. Isolation is a form of torture. I want to live in a world where disabled people are wanted in society.

“They’re cutting Medicaid so they can get rid of the people taking advantage of it.” Actually, the amount of people taking advantage of Medicaid are probably less than 1%. Why? Because in order to qualify, you basically have to live under the poverty line. You can barely survive. It’s not a luxury.

People with pre-existing conditions are not expendable. The vulnerable are not expendable. The elderly are not expendable. Children are not expendable. The disabled are not expendable. If we planned around protecting the most vulnerable in society, we would all be better off.

Disabled people make able bodied people uncomfortable because we blatantly ask for help from others. We rely on community for support and care. Taking care of the most vulnerable is the revolution to a more connected society.

I really loathe how the corporate media always quote members of Congress, the Trump Administration, Big Pharma, but RARELY if NEVER do you see a senior, someone with disability or anyone on Social Security talk about how any cuts to it will impact them. When mask mandates were enacted to try and save lives, the right screamed about freedom. When mask bans were passed? They celebrated. Because it’s not about freedom. With vaccine mandates, they screamed about autonomy. When vaccines get restricted, they cheer. Because it’s not about autonomy.

Just as with masks, the whole “we just don’t want mandates” lie has now collapsed around the COVID19 vaccine. These people are the same charlatans who claim they are all about medical “choice”. Then they take the choice away from us.

You can’t fight fascism without disability justice. Fascism creates more disability, which then sees us as replaceable and our deaths as excusable. You can’t fight for humanity without fighting for disabled people.

If you’re a leftist, you need to be discussing disability rights because it’s one of the most pressing issues of our time. People are becoming more and more disabled in a society that has been allowing high risk people to die. Eugenics is happening RIGHT NOW!!
