Voters are tired of people making excuses for corruption.
#booksky friends: a note from the staff at @acrebooks.bsky.social
#Scam Alert! We're very disappointed to learn (via dozens of alerts) that someone is impersonating our editors (most especially, Sarah Haak). Please note that Acre Books is open for prose subs via our queue, but NOT soliciting #manuscripts privately. For guidelines, visit acre-books.com/submissions/
This is the kind of thing that would make me consider placing a sports bet. Your average D1 women’s team would dog walk an elite boys high school team.
What sort of delusional BS is this??? www.mediaite.com/media/news/c...
Bluesky is as much of an echo chamber as you want it to be, thanks to the power of the nuclear block, and that’s fine.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing millions of people that what they really wanted to do was argue with complete strangers on the internet 24/7.

This is why I call Seth Moulton’s position on trans girls in sports radical and extreme. It would change decade-old laws. It is a horrific invasion of privacy. And it tells girls that politicians have a right to their bodies. In Congress, I will stand for the privacy and dignity of all children.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

I couldn’t do it when I was 20. I’m 57. I’d fumble if a kicker noticed my existence.
Do you think you take a hit from a NFL player and not fumble the ball at your age?
My latest for Another Poem to Love is on Chelsea Rathburn's "What Do We Do When the Old Monsters Die" from her new book Broken Houses just out from LSU Press. I hope you'll check it out. brian-spears.com/2026/08/03/w...
What Do We Do When the Old Monsters Die by Chelsea Rathburn

The Lynx won and The Spectacle (Olivia Miles has the best nickname in all sports I swear) shined the way she has all season but did that Fever backup guard point at anyone for an extended period?

Had a cup of coffee this morning so strong it opened my third eye. I don’t like what it’s seeing.
I know this isn’t a criminal case but I don’t know that I’d want to be represented by a lawyer named Oprison.
It’s also notable that DLA Piper, a large firm, is apparently taking on the case now. Oprison, a partner based in D.C., previously worked in the White House counsel’s office during the final years of the George W. Bush administration. Aburos is an associate who practices out of Miami.
You saw this too when ebooks first started to become a thing. People who wanted the cost to be way lower 1) overestimated how much printing/shipping/stocking added to a book’s cost and 2) completely missed the editorial/marketing/publicity work.
this is absolutely true. people don't see beyond actors. they don't realize that regular degular people bring them tv and film. when you kill an industry, whether it's hollywood or the government, you kill everything around it. i wish people would THINK.
Well I’ve found what I’m making as Christmas presents this year
"prove a human wrote this" mf you think an AI would have needed 4 threatening emails and 3 deadlines to submit a short story

Even if you just remember the ad and can confirm its existence, that helps. It’s for a piece I’m writing.
I’m looking for video of an ad from my childhood, late 70’s to early 80’s. It’s a Popeye’s ad with footage of the Immaculate Reception and Franco Harris running into a restaurant followed by a crowd of people. Any help?
One of things I’m proudest of in my time at Gambit has been how we’ve used the 40 under 40 issue to highlight real people doing real work to make New Orleans better. Most 40 lists are basically ways for lawyers and pr professionals to pimp themselves. But at Gambit www.nola.com/gambit/news/...
The 2026 Gambit 40 Under 40 List
Gambit features 40 people who are doing great things in New Orleans. Like the city itself, our honorees represent the very best of Louisiana and America.

Only Illinois residents can claim a roadkill deer, according to state law. The only stipulation is the resident claiming the deer cannot be delinquent on child support payments.
Even Jehovah’s Witnesses are giving this some side eye.
Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...

While I was searching for the Franco Harris Popeye's ad I mentioned below I discovered this gem featuring Jerry Rice, and the lifelong Saints fan in me feels like New Orleans got a little revenge for all the pain he visited on us as a Niner. Not enough, but some. youtu.be/jTVC4ocEEDs?...
