(He/him) Dem politics, sci-fi, law, humor. I repost a lot of stuff.

It's extremely corrosive to civil order that we hear "Trump is breaking the law" and most people think "when I break the law I am *minimally* involved in a drawn out cruel display of state power and *maximally* deprived of my freedom" and for actual members of the government its a "whoopsie".

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

Putin told Iran the locations of our warships. Today, Trump rewarded him by lifting sanctions and allowing American dollars to fuel Russia’s war machine. Our troops are in harm’s way, and the President cut a deal with the adversary putting a target on their backs.

Again, I never again want to hear the Republicans claim the mantle of, or be referred to as, the "party of national security." This, as with threatening to invade our NATO allies, should have long ago immediately ended his presidency. It also should again now.

“Zelenskyy could’ve stopped this war many times, and he chose not to … he better damn well stop” — Trump is no longer trying to conceal that he’s fully on Putin’s side

the reason the media doesn't cover this for what it clearly is is because they like Trump and they want to help him rule us. Especially as we approach an election that could be a generational wipeout for Rs they will double down on attempting to help him

term limits and age limits are populist bullshit meant to give people an out from admitting whats wrong with America: The Republican Party and their fucked up ideas.

Meanwhile, of course, Marco Rubio - instigator of Boris Nemtsov Plaza, the man who used to call Putin a war criminal, and whose maiden speech in the Senate was all about American exceptionalism - remains a senior figure in the administration that's aligning the US with Putin's Russia.

Head Start works. For over 60 years, it's been the gold standard for early childhood education, helping children & families thrive. Now the Trump administration wants to dismantle the very standards that make it successful. I wrote to Secretary RFK Jr. urging him to withdraw this dangerous proposal

It's #HeadStartAwarenessMonth! For over 60 years, Head Start has set the gold standard for early childhood education. Now, the Trump administration wants to eliminate standards protecting children's safety, quality education & essential services. Head Start works. We must protect it.

It is funny to me, and wildly hypocritical, that Ro Khanna still maintains support from the left wing as someone authentically left. The same people who attacked Biden for votes from the 1980s conveniently forget that Ro Khanna ran in 2014 as a social security cutting tech bro.

It's not hard. Both Yglesias moderates and Khanna leftists give MAGA politicians legitimacy because they want MAGA's base. Ossoff simply does not give a shit about the MAGA base, which allows him to speak with fierce clarity about MAGA politicians. He is willing to bet on an anti-MAGA majority.

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this
