*Every* single time a politician uses the phrase "Jumping the queue" with respect to migrants as James Cleverly has just done they should immediately be asked "What queue?" and the journalist should insist on the details of how people can join this queue.
Spoke to @pressgazette about why the Afghan superinjunction case is a huge moment for press freedom, open justice and parliamentary democracy in the UK- and why it must never be allowed to happen in the same way again. pressgazette.co.uk/media_law/af...

Delighted to share the cover of my new book, Ellora McGee, Trainee Banshee: The New School! Art by @unawoods.bsky.social, pub Gill Books, Sept 4th. Ellora's just started at a new school, and it's hard to keep her budding banshee powers secret. But what if they're about to save the day? 📚🇮🇪💫
Tell me what your pet would tell you if they had the chance?
I am reading this and it is absolutely brilliant! It’s based in Malta and now I really want to go there. Thank you for writing such an amazing story @rowancoleman.bsky.social
Asylum-seekers get £49 a week loaded onto a pre-paid card if they're not in catered accommodation. They get £10 if they are. And yet nearly a third of voters think government spending helps 'immigrants' **most of all**. Insane and frightening.
On the London Overground. I’ve just asked a young guy playing loud music out of his phone to turn his music down. He asked stroppily why he should. I said because it was uncivilised. He then turned it off and said “yeah, that’s fair” I HAVE NEVER FELT SO ALIVE
The Telegraph today carries a news story about someone paying £7.4 million for a handbag (Hello, Lady Bracknell!). And an opinion piece describing a wealth tax as a ‘moral abomination’. What a time to be alive.
The Lib Dems have reported the BBC to Ofcom for giving "undue prominence" to Reform UK in its coverage of the UK-France deal yesterday
Stitched deep into the holler and hullabaloo of our festival fabric is our Worship & Spirituality programme, providing precious opportunities for quieter reflection and deeper understanding across the weekend.
Another #NewIllustrationOfTheDay today by Mia Underwood, from Live Like a Tudor, with a narrative by Claire Saunders. Graphic techniques applied to Tudor artworks create an effect of folk art without losing the decorative period details. From Button Books 8 July. @clairesaunders.bsky.social

Britain *is* broken. Brexit broke Britain. And Nigel Farage is benefitting from the wreckage. This was always my greatest fear with Brexit - that it would bring about stagnant conditions that favour extreme populism. Much like drug addiction causes crashes that make the drug more seductive.
2016: Nigel Farage, "The worst case scenario, economically, is better than where we are today" 2025: Nigel Farage, "This is broken Britain, nothing works"
The BBC are constantly bending over backwards to please Reform. I fear they're becoming a mouthpiece for Nigel Farage, a guy who wants to destroy them.
Day 34 of showing you that certain animals (including spiders) aren't scary 😲 Today’s creature feature is Blossom the orchid mantis 🌸 She doesn’t breathe like we do! She uses spiracles (tiny holes along her sides) to pull in air. How cool is that?! 😁 #facts #prayingmantis
"The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality." - James Baldwin
#NewIllustrationOfTheDay by Sam Usher from Super Me, with text by Charissa Coulthard in which a boy searching for superheroes finds the hero in himself. Usher’s lively pen conjures the scene and a happy mood with his characteristic warmth, observation and brio. @simonandschuster.bsky.social 3 July

Warnock: If I'm honest, there are days when I have to ask people of my faith tradition as a Christian, are we reading the same book? The book I know says I was hungry and you fed me. I was sick, I was in prison and you visited me, I was a stranger and you welcomed me….
