The best challenge on the UK government's vocational subject at 14 push, and food for thought for us in Scotland too.
I've weighed in on the great vocational education debate. From what we can see of the govt plans, I think they will repeat mistakes of the past. Also, we need to retire the phrase "parity of esteem". It's not helping. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/the-proble...

Big news on technical education in England. As with all reforms, the two key questions are: what incentives are being created for schools, and do those incentives align with what's best for students?
Finished reading: The Art of Uncertainty How to Navigate Chance, Ignorance, Risk and Luck by David Spiegelhalter 📚 I really rate this book - great subject knowledge for probability. It also reminds me of how interlinked Maths and Philosophy are.

The Right Way, The Wrong Way and The AI Way
Like many people who spent lots of time in the 90s, my head is an echo chamber of Simpsons quotes. And there’s one quote that has been on my mind a lot recently.

I really hope Burnham calls the new No 10 "Manc-a-Lago". It's a missed opportunity if he doesn't 😂

Marmite? Love it or Hate it? I'm collecting some (unserious) data for teaching purposes. If you have a spare minute, please fill out this anonymous opinion poll for me: forms.gle/M5C91iQxiWYC... It is a short list of (likely) polarising preference questions.

This is my perfect use case for AI - I want to teach a lesson on sample space in probability and I want to use Monopoly as the hook. I ask for slides that include the opening side of Monopoly, a blank and a filled in sample space diagram, and finally the last slide.
Nice piece on smilies and visualising distributions. Could make a good prompt in a lesson (though sadly the full link isn't child appropriate) pudding.cool/2026/05/simi...
