Fascinating that multiple choice papers for A Level Maths were existence from June 1978 (almost 50 years ago) and it being running right up to January 1993 before it stopped. Find out more about its usefulness for our current A Level Maths / Further Maths syllabus in my talk on #Mathsconf41
New (free) TMUA resource. Three pairs of mini-TMUA exams (8 questions each) on themes (Logic & Proof; Geometry & Graphs; Algebra). Do one of the pair, think about the answers (provided), then do the second of the pair with more confidence. www.tes.com/teaching-res... 70 days and counting...
Enjoying dipping into this over the summer, some intriguing methods, and showing the benefits of the link between methods across curriculum - how you teach linear sequences can influence quadratic sequences and/or linear graphs. Also fun Victorian textbook extracts. Thanks @mathsjem.bsky.social

Really enjoying creating some new lessons for KS5 in #Mathstoday. Here are a couple of the slides from Y2 Trig Modelling. Interested to see what people think! #ALevelMaths
Great to catch up with maths friends @dagsmaths.bsky.social @leightonm4ths.bsky.social @meganguinan.bsky.social last night! Love the summer holidays. ☀️

Exercise books are so temptingly inspectable. You can flick through & feel you’ve seen learning. But full pages, neat titles, coloured pens and polished paragraphs are, at best, proxies. The more beautiful a book is often the less evidence of learning it provides. open.substack.com/pub/daviddid...
Why I hate 'beautiful books'
Why students' exercise books make for dangerously unstable proxies for learning and poor revision resources

I had sooo much fun talking as the @meimaths.bsky.social after dinner talk entertainment! Got to nerd out with 230 awesome teachers about Morse, Magic Squares, Knights Tours and my fave puzzle … the Tower of Hanoi 🤓💗 And thanks Casio for the open bar ;)
We’re on our way home from the MEI Conference. It was fantastic, as always. We’re factorising quadratics on the train, practising cool methods that we’d not seen before. @meganguinan.bsky.social
For anyone interested, I've uploaded one of our booklets for sharing (Unit 1 : Points and Lines) but this is still a work in progress to some extent! sxpmaths.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...

Been finding it particularly useful for A-Level stuff like this - would take a very long time to make questions myself.
Saw something recently about AI making an incorrect quadratic graph. Gave me an idea to use AI to create "common sense" check questions. Students often don't check if their answer makes sense. I try to embed this in my teaching, this will help. Started with quadratics #mathstoday shorturl.at/Y7jfq

Thought this might be worth a reshare for people having conversations with year 12s about university applications. A spreadsheet of UCAS data by STEM subject (tabs along bottom) showing published entry criteria, most common grade profile and lowest grades of students accepted on to the course. 1/2

I wrote a post about a way I've been trying this year to help engage students with abstract ideas within Maths. It may give you some ideas for your lessons. open.substack.com/pub/harryzaf... #MathsToday #ukmathschat @mathsjem.bsky.social
Providing Context to the Maths We Teach
In this post, I share some ideas on how we can get students to engage with abstract ideas in Maths.
