there is a very powerful reason that any "smart" things I set up in the future will be using shit like Zigbee, ZWave, or Thread for the network backend because I refuse to add a ton of Wi-Fi-based devices that'll try to phone home to who knows where. It is to be as "dumb" and unobtrusive as can be.
