Birder with over 45 years patch watching #BudleBay in NE #Northumberland. Opinions are own.
Fresh northerly winds and squalls during a rather disappointing 4-hour seawatch at Annstead. These two Bonxies, 2 Sooty Shearwaters, 8 Manx, an adult Pom and 8 Arctic Skuas were the highlights #NEbirding
Walked out to the tern roost this AM and was not disappointed! Great views, great noise, and a notable count of 24 Roseate Terns, including 5 juvs #BudleBay #NEbirding
A quiet morning with the cloud finally breaking mid-afternoon to reveal an Osprey. An impressive count of 18 Mediterranean Gulls was the second-highest day count for the Bay. Also notable were the first juv Blackwits and Merlin of the autumn #BudleBay #NEbirding
I'm delighted that a short but kind review of Birds of Budle Bay appears in the August/September 2026 issue of The Northumbrian. Take a look @ntbirdclub.bsky.social @durhambirdclub.bsky.social @teesmouthbirdclub.bsky.social #BirdsofBudle #NEBIRDING
A belting adult islandica on the Ross Low this evening, fell asleep within metres of me #NEBIRDING @ntbirdclub.bsky.social
Not long now until the summering Pale-bellied Brent is joined by the first returning wintering birds. Also, today's total of 20 Mediterranean Gulls set a new record, making it the highest known day count recorded for the bay #NEBIRDING
Just recieved this video of an ad Laughing Gull found by Mac Navin on the Isle Cies offshore Vigo Galicia, NW Spain @rarebirdspain.bsky.social @galicianbirder.bsky.social
So far, I've only seen one Red-breasted Merganser chick this year, but it seems to have survived #BudleBay #NEBIRDING
Another notable obs today was an adult Avocet accompanied by four juveniles. Given the age of the young birds, they are prob likely to have bred locally. If so.this could represent the first breeding record for #BudleBay and the Lindisfarne NNR #NEBIRDING
At least ten Mediterranean Gulls were present today, including six juveniles. A particular highlight was this individual, which was ringed at Scolt Head Island, Norfolk, on 18 June 2026 #BudleBay #NEBIRDING

Amazed to see that the Pec Sand* present for last two days had been joined by a second individual this morning. Unfortunately, too far for my camera #BudleBay #NEbirding
