'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

Ask your senators and representatives about the Private Prison Information Act. It's time to stop using privatization to dodge constitutional oversight. FOIA needs to apply to prisons that receive federal dollars! Uncover the hidden stories.

As writers, we tease death. As humans, we meet him. One of my most exciting moments while running Parody was when a submission arrived from Jane Yolen. Her poem "Death Rides USAir At Night" made it into volume 5 issue 1, playing in the ideas of Emily Dickinson. I hope Jane is having a good flight.

My mother, the inimitable Jane Yolen passed away this morning after a blessingly short fight with Alzheimer’s. She did not suffer, and went peacefully into the ether which, I am certain for her, will be filled with words of the most exquisite beauty and meaning.

Perhaps a risky thought to share, but I think about it often: the privilege that white writers have to not have to be concerned with whether their fiction is representative of any community or element of reality is actually an overwhelmingly thick layer of separation in creative spaces.

I want you to read me because you like my words, trust my ideas, trust me to be curious about the world and make (hopefully) a valid universal insight. I don't want you to read me the way a tourist eats doubles--excited to experience something exotic & challenging. I want you to eat to be nourished.

At the Nebula Ceremony, Ryka Aoki shared my poem and a few others. Shifting celestial winds carried us to the first ever Nebula Award for Best Poem! Comics also joined the crew with their inaugural award. What a night!
