Some thoughts on this. There's an old saying that springs to mind: the future is already here, but it's unevenly distributed. * awareness of AI tells in fiction. How widespread was this knowledge two years ago? It's still not as widespread as it needs to be within slushpiles
Hi, SFF Apex, Bona Books, Agita Publishing, And all the others who have gotten tricked by AI, Let's have a nice talk.
Guys! Gals! Fellow nonbinary pals! It is LITERALLY a sign!
I've seen lots of magazines today taking down their AI stories and I couldnt be more pleased. That's a hell yeah from me.
Calling special attention to the generous, eligible magazines that have published my work: @strangehorizons.bsky.social, @havenspec.bsky.social, @trollbreathmag.bsky.social. Fellow writers, who else do you think needs to get on this?
Love how @inkfoundry.bsky.social is honoring the hard and beautiful work it takes to put together a literary magazine. Hope all the Spec Fic Mags out there are are entering to win money for their publication and their writers!

This story by @librariangoblin.bsky.social in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social from last year is a delight. Fun riffs on everything from Borges to Thoreau to Gödel.

every single publication should be having AI-detecting intensives for all of their readers and staff. slop is slipping through the cracks, and it’s largely because people don’t know what to look for. i wonder if there are some other mag editors who would be interested in running trainings with me…
As usual, don’t miss @mynachang.bsky.social’s excellent round-up of flash fiction and other very short works. Myna is my go-to source for figuring out where to find new flash every month. I’m thrilled to be included in her latest post.
May/June Spec Flash Roundup is out today!
Really nice shout out for @sandrakasturi.bsky.social’s Me And The Devil in Myna’s flash roundup!

Just saying this again - if you submit AI stories to magazines, you are a piece of poop. If you keep getting accepted by naive/trusting editors, you're an even bigger poop. And if you loudly preach against AI while subbing AI stories.... 😡 Some of us see you.

Instead of launching, Emma’s debut book got buried alive. I can’t imagine how awful that feels. Actually. Strike that. I can because Emma wrote beautifully about how brutal this has been. Let’s unbury it - share the link, buy a copy, send one to a friend? emmaburnett.carrd.co

As a short fiction writer, I am not likely to go the route of Tolkein and flesh out an entire language (though I do lean into the idea that invented languages work best if tied to the history and culture of the speakers).

Emmie Christie has been writing Why You Should Read reviews on the InkFoundry website. If you're unfamiliar with InkFoundry, it's a fantastic resource: a self-proclaimed free dynamic library, linking to or hosting free-to-read stories. She's also been doing a weekly Writer Spotlight on her own website, with more reviews and author interviews. That means Emmie's been reading a tremendous number of words and writing thoughtful reviews.
