It’s astounding how much the functioning of universities depends on a significant fraction of faculty being workaholic people pleasers with poor boundaries and ADHD

What's baffling about how underfunded services are that help faculty get grants is that we bring money into the univ. They care about that overhead. But not enough, I guess, to fund the grant workers because they know faculty are workaholics & will just work more hours if we have less support.

Beyond the concerns with AI, this attitude towards mentoring graduate students is extremely disturbing. Only concerned about what they can gain from students, no desire to teach.

Some people should never have access to students. “AI requires no ramp-ups, no meetings, and absolutely no emotional support…The issue is not whether my students are valuable. In long run, they are invaluable. The issue is that their value emerges slowly, whereas AI delivers immediate returns.”
