The thing about being a writer is that I kinda do it to save my own life, or at least extend it. If others can come along, that’s good. But outsourcing one of your few tools to see your own mind? To be surprised by what it can express back to you when you ask? That seems incredibly stupid.

Every few months, I ask folks to leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Why? Because we live in a world (partially) controlled by mysterious algorithms and rankings. It's not fair, and it's not ideal. But! Your review can get the show in front of more people and help me reach algorithm escape velocity

Not to kick the hive but crazy that someone like Snyder has spent his whole career attempting the sane tricks and hasn't achieved anything as compelling as CGI rain from 2003

Congratulations to Lindsey Graham for writing his own obituary ten years and two months in advance. The question of who deserves it remains, since the natural world and a whole lot of people in this country and beyond do not deserve it.

1/🧵 We do need to talk more about the illegality and lawlessness of the Cass Review. Hilary Cass cited Anne Wæhre's then-unpublished “study” via “personal communication”. It was later published at doi:10.1007/s00787-024-02508-5 and doi:10.1111/apa.17530, and the papers have now been retracted.

it's so funny that Janice Raymond, Lisa Vogel, & co. went so ballistic over Sandy Stone ruining Olivia Records by fixing their sound and training more women engineers when what really happened to Olivia Records is that capitalism turned it into a travel agency for lesbian cruise ship adventures

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it. - Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders. - Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

People always think I'm being ungenerous or misstating their views, but this is very explicitly what the "gender-critical" crowd says: Their *best case* against gender affirming care for kids is that the research says it works, but the research doesn't count. (this is from the Cass report)

I'm not exaggerating, that is the transphobes' *entire argument*: The near-unanimous positive findings on youth transition do not count because we have methodological quibbles with the research. In any other field you would look at early, promising research and go "yep, keep expanding."

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.
