Part of the Riverlink project in Te Awakairangi that boils my blood is that NZTA is moving the rundown, unused, asbestos-riddled Melling station building to the new site...because it's heritage listed. What an expensive faff 😤

NZ must reckon with the grim reality of our future: more storms, floods and heat. This is a confronting situation. And yet, if we are to shield our communities, our infrastructure and our economy from the worst excesses of climate change, it is one we must confront. newsroom.co.nz/2026/02/18/c...

Climate change is here. NZ isn't ready

Analysis: A serious approach to climate adaptation requires reckoning with the grim reality the future holds: more storms, more floods, more heat.

Our food processor recently died, and unbeknownst to me my partner had kept...not our last one but the one before that, and dug it out of the shed. He's telling me it goes with our mid-century kitchen 🙄

This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids

#4 sounds like a lovely book but I didn't write it. Have had whānau up and down the country send me clippings lol Whoever put together this list that has been circulated to regional papers, didn't fact check.

Soo... holiday plans are in the toilet. Partner & child 1 were supposed to be on this ferry this morning (child 2 and me flying to meet them further south). But next available sailing is in a week 😭 KiwiRail investigating Interislander Kaiārahi ferry steering problem www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Zohran Mamdani's win is "an incredible proof of concept of how to fight fascism," says @naomiaklein.bsky.social. "Fascists want everybody to be the same. They celebrate conformity, uniformity, sameness, hierarchy. … The entire [Mamdani] campaign was a love letter to the diversity."

If this crowdfund meets the goal I can pay myself the equivalent of the jobseeker benefit for the time between my current contract ends, and the start of the next academic year, at which point I'll become a full time student and borrow weekly living costs pledgeme.co.nz/projects/861...

I remember when a protester punched the co-leader of the Greens in the face. Hana Maipi-Clarke had her home broken into by a political stalker. I recall VFF protesting outside Clarke's parents' home while Jacinda was on holiday. I dont remember hearing about National's concerns back then??

Calling people attack dogs is not at attempt to deescalate and maintain civility, it's a attempt to escalate to distract from a failing economy. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

My extremely Swiftie teen and her BFF are burning off nervous energy in the kitchen baking Taylor-themed biscuits while listening to Taylor back catalogue and I predict things are going to reach fever pitch by 5pm

“We are shocked to our core by harrowing images of famine in Gaza. We are revolted by what can only be described as a grossly disproportionate response from the Israeli Government." It is described as *genocide*, you tool.

NZ will not yet recognise Palestinian statehood, Peters says in UN speech

Foreign Minister Winston Peters said there was no obvious link between recognising Palestinian statehood now and protecting work towards a two-state solution.

Use “I” statements please Winston. The tens of thousands of NZers who marched, the thousands and thousands more who see this genocide for what it is and who know recognising Palestine is an important symbol of solidarity, your decision does not represent us.

This excellent thread yesterday from @kirstyjohnston.bsky.social really got me thinking. I don't feel we need to hear anything more about the Phillips kids in the media. Let that poor broken family reconnect and (hopefully) heal. They didn't ask for any of this and they deserve their privacy.

Kirsty Johnston@kirstyjohnston.bsky.social · 11mo ago

Until now I have resolutely stayed out of the Phillips' case because at one point several years ago I wrote so much about Family Court that it began to impact my mental health and possibly my fertility BUT today I wrote a backgrounder and I really want to point something out /1
