Why am I learning game dev? Well one thing - I always loved games. But secondly, more importantly - I feel that big game companies are in the hands of people who care more about the money than the art. I'm disillusioned with the dev industry in general but I want to make games I'd want to play

Dick move but I am not surprised. Sadly. If this game was made by a big successful studio, they'd be showered with praise for tackling an important, difficult topic. Meanwhile smaller folk get censored at the last minute...there is not justice where big money is involved.

BAFTA pulling a trailer for an autobiographical game about surviving sexual assault only hours before it was said to be a part of a showcase is an exceptionally bad look.

Added link to our Subscribestar page in the bio. Currently its under review but I'll write when its up and hopefully you will be inclined to throw some cash our way. All funds gathered at this point will go to asset expenses - plugins I would need, art, sounds and music.

Longtime college friend of mine, Mike Prinke, was among those laid off at Epic Games: he has been fighting terminal brain cancer, and now he, his wife, and kid, have no income or health insurance. Sharing here in hopes it can reach the right people on their behalf. #epicgames

All the changes in the last decade or more lead us to this point where we finally see all the "improvements" were done to blind us to the truth and leash us so we will own nothing and like it. Corporate needs to sell more, not help solve any kind of problem.

genuinely fascinating that we’ve hit a point where the full monetization of the internet and ai bot takeover has led to a majority of people wanting tech minimalism

I see the whole "indie will save us" thing and...lol. People still can't fathom how difficult it is to make a game and how astronomically more difficult it is to LIVE off making games. Its not 2008 when there were way less games being released and you could carve out a niche for yourself.

I think what frustrates me is how much worse it is in indie. If you think aaa is bad, watch what happens with the big fish in the small ponds. Some of the most prominent voices in indie--people you like--are rapists, neo Nazis, bigots, and serial abusers.

tbqh I'm not even sure what people mean when they say "indie will save us". save who. save what. do you just mean "well interesting indie games will continue to come out"? sure. do you mean "indie games can absorb the tens of thousands of workers laid off from AAA studios"? that's insane

'Indie will save us' is rooted in consumer thought, not creator. 'Indie will save us' is about how big games are meaningless and novel small games, usually with a gimmick, are better so it's okay to buy them. They don't care about workers, they care about feeling good about the treats they consume.

Apropos of nothing. You ever read some statement about AI usage from a game developer about how it's only being used in some limited capacity, but it reads to you like "Our high on his own farts CEO is making us use this garbage despite our protests, but we're trying to silo it as best we can"?

Ok so some background on who is making this stuff. I'm Fae, I'm 40 and I've been working as a software dev for the last 16 years of my life. I made warehouse management apps, Windows Phone apps, AR/VR projects. I never made a game and I want to try now cause I feel

This industry is dumb. We just want to make cool games for people to play. It used to be that was hard just by the nature of the job, now it's hard because even if you succeed you still risk being punished for no fault of your own after having your labor exploited.

I recently saw someone try to make the "if a game is good, it'll find an audience" argument the other day and I've been mad about it since. Success is never guaranteed. You can do everything you can to improve your chances, but I wish more people recognized that quality work ≠ guaranteed audience.
