This is misleading. If you say the Rhine’ s “water levels drop to lowest level since 1880,” that implies that the river was this dry in 1880. But 1880 is just when we started keeping records! So what you need to say is: the river is at its lowest level since records began.
Farmers are struggling with heatwaves and drought, both here in the UK and in many other regions. This summer should be a wake-up call, and yet the propaganda against climate action is unabated.

Wrote about the deafening silence on our summer of climate impacts from Labour, the Lib Dems, the Greens, business leaders, and even some campaign groups. The dominant climate discourse from the past week has been from those who want to ditch net zero targets and trash decarbonisation policies.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.
Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

The major problem with this breezily depoliticised headspace is that it is specifically the speed, scale and geographic concentration of data centre demand growth that tends to make it specifically consume fossil fuels over renewable energy

The spill is one of the UK's largest ever - an estimated 25 tonnes (around 1 billion pellets) entering the sea after a ship collision at Port of Tyne.

Having difficulty concentrating due to heat can have serious consequences - in the LSE survey, out of the 3% who had an accident or injury at work during the heatwave, two-thirds felt it was linked to the heat. For example, bus drivers have been raising the alarm about unsafe working temps.
