I worked with Rod at the Today programme. He took no prisoners, but he was witty and personally capable of genuine warmth. My sympathy to his family.
“Don’t speak ill of the dead” silences people harmed by the relevant deceased, compounds the harm & allows those for whom it is advantageous to do so to launder their reputation. Several years ago I typed “Lol fuck off” into the “name” field of a cashback-as-credit-on-your-phone-bill app, and a couple of times a year I get an email saying something like, “Lol fuck off, check out these offers!” And it surprises me every time. It’s the gift that keeps on giving 💫
