Advice blogger, soon-to-be-author. You may remember me as CAwkward on that other site, but I have reclaimed my full title and powers! Here to make new internets to push the bad internets down.
Earwormed by @josie.zone with an excellent comic adaptation of Jack & Diane Now it’s everyone’s problem m.youtube.com/watch?v=6QX5...

When a writing org (or company providing services to authors) starts bleating about how great "AI" is, look to see which of their higher-ups has recently set themselves to profit by the grift.
There has to be less excruciating way to measure blood pressure. Come on, geniuses.

Morton Salt Girl is a merry fellow; Bright blue her label is and her shoes are yellow
Bet you didn't know that the Little Morton Salt Girl is an immortal being who existed before there was life on Earth.
30 hours of sewing so far... lots and lots of French knots but some of the grass areas are now being filled too! If you didn't see the first post, this is an aerial embroidery inspired by moorlands. At this point I still can't estimate how long it'll take in full but I'm not half way yet 😊🌱
Prioritize kids over computers! We’re calling on Chicago School Board candidates to commit to a "Pledge to Protect Human-Centered Education”—22 have signed on so far. Full Pledge, candidates who have committed, and why we must protect human-centered education in CPS: www.ilfps.org/pledge_prote...
been david byrne's butler for six years but he still won't let me wear the big tuxedo at work, says i haven't 'earned the shoulders' yet, fucking noodley prick
Essayed in the menchies again. Sub🧵in case you want to teach students *how* to collaborate before you throw them in the group project deep-end instead of assuming they already know. Short version: Let the class define & agree on what a good teammate looks like
To be fair, I did do a bit of “sort it yourselves” while the projects were still underway, but it came with coaching: 1) What’s *your* plan for talking to your wayward peer and seeing if you can wrangle them back onside? 2) What’s your contingency for filling the gaps & getting stuff done?
I post for the people who grew up wailing “ahhhh! ahhhh!” in perfect time with the lady slumped backward over a gravestone in the Masterpiece: Mystery! opening credits and still do it every single time.
Edward Gorey's Masterpiece Theater Animation
Alt: Edward Gorey's Masterpiece Theater Animation, first shot is the fancy 1920s people dancing and then we quick cut to the lady with the amazing batwing hat and the magic eye fan holding a shushing finger to her lips.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
For writers worried that they won't be able to "prove" their work isn't Spicy Autocomplete--worry not. You thought about every choice and will be able to talk about those choices easily and clearly. Folks who used the slop machine didn't make choices and won't have anything to say about why
I wrote a whole essay in some poor person’s replies again. This 🧵’s for teachers who deal with group projects and creative fields in the age of the capitalist plagiarism hagfish slime machines.
As a prof this is how I dealt with the person in the group project who everyone else complained privately about because they did no work come presentation time: “Nice work, everyone! For the Q& A, why don’t you start us off [Obvious Fuckup Name]! Can you tell us a little about [creative choice]?”
He is exactly how I picture Carmody Braque from The Changeover. Keebler Elf-looking motherfucker crudely pasted over a parasitic void.
today i learned jefferson beauregard sessions iii is still alive
If I won the lottery I would hire an interior designer and just say “Columbo murderer” while waving my hand around my home office.
I’ve noticed an influx of political spam texts like this lately:
Spontaneous marriage proposals from taxi drivers (a near-weekly occurrence in my 20s & 30s) have been on an uptick lately. This surprise menopausal rizz is no joke!!!
My dad’s favorite movie of all time is The Commitments (he’s easily seen it over 500 times) and heck if I don’t want to watch it with him tonight in honor of baby Glenn Hansard on guitar.
When Steve Albini died, all I could listen to was Jason Molina's "Steve Albini's Blues" (natch) When I learned Glen Hansard was dead, I listened to the EP of Hansard covering Molina And now I'm just listening to Molina's "Whip-Poor-Will" and crying a fair amount

While we're talking about The Odyssey, can we take a second to appreciate one of the greatest exchanges of dialogue in the history of superhero fiction?
Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12
“it’s reasonable to ask questions about trans girls in sports” was always intended to mainstream transphobia. It’s absurd that people fell for it. Democrats are constantly letting oppressors set the terms of debate instead of just saying “no, fuck you.”
Slightly worried that if someone puts the right piece in, the whole street will disappear.
