I don't have much to say about the rancid themes of SNW season 4 that isn't being said so I'll complain about the dialogue. It's clunky, first draft. It's overly expositionary. But the delivery is even worse. It feels like the characters are monologuing their lines rather than talking to each other.

I didn't like the latest Strange New Worlds episodes, but I will keep watching because I don't know when to quit. And no, the problem with the last episode wasn't that it was horror. Trek can do horror well (see also: DS9's Empok Nor). It's that it was pointless, uninteresting, and led nowhere.

I think about the Treks about someone coming back to fix a mistake they made, and every time I wonder “are they technically murdering all the people who existed after that mistake, or branching off a new non-mistake timeline”. This fundamental question never comes up once in the SNW premiere.

The flaws in the first SNW episode this season are further complicated by how time travel works in Trek not being consistent (over-writing timelines? branching timelines?), but that just makes the moral philosophy questions implicated more interesting and deserving of better treatment.

I hated the first one. Any random episode of The Good Place would have taken the moral and ethical question more seriously. I actually enjoyed the second one. I thought it did move the three characters into new thoughts about themselves.
