Capitalism is a death cult. he/him

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

Forever charmed by Monkey Island II's iMUSE implementation, Lucasfilm/Arts' sound engine for smoothly and naturally transitioning from the musical beats and moods of one screen to another. It's something you lose out on in the CD audio based re-releases of this, Dark Forces, and X-Wing/Tie Fighter.

And as an AuDHD person we're fed up with explanations about the techpushers being socially inept due to spectrum and neurodivergence and this being the reason for chatbot failures. It's not only insulting, but outright harmful.

Fantastic 4: "Galactus is coming! Everyone needs to use less power if we're going to survive." "Let's do it, F4!" Real life: "Climate crisis is coming! Everyone needs to use slightly less power." Techbros: "Here's a supercomputer that only tells lies and uses more power than Argentina."

It kills me that academia writ large derided Wikipedia as untrustworthy for 20 years and now, a not-insubstantial contingent of academia is all-in on the mostly-wrong plagiarism machine.
