Wondering what my answer would be to the "favorite sandwich filling" question on that Waitrose podcast (an impossible question) led to lamb sandwich time: shoulder's currently slow-cooking after brining since Sunday in spicy Afghan pickle brine. Probably labne, onion, fresh mint.

Absolutely wild that the first hit you get when Googling the results of #MI8 and Trump is a Fox News headline claiming the Trump-endorsed candidate won. He *lost*, badly, to someone who had dropped out of the race! The actual story has the news right, but the Google hed is a total fabrication.

President Donald Trump's endorsed candidate, Amir Hassan of Flint, on Wednesday in an upset that disrupts the Republican Party's plan for how to win a competitive U.S. House seat.

FINALLY we have local tomatoes and eggplant. I've got eggplant confit in the oven, and we'll have ratatouille with leftover Indian tonight. And I'll have a tomato sandwich somewhere in there, because this is ridiculous, it's fucking August.

here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?

Every so often I remember that both Marvel and DC had an embarrassingly silly "real name reveal" at the end of a movie: Zendaya isn't "Michelle" ... she's MJ! JGL's cop is named Robin! It's the kind of wink you only think of because you're on the third reboot.

Key to my comics reading aesthetic: a next door neighbor's father had owned a newsstand, so she had been a big comics reader in the 50s and 60s and let me read giant stacks of them. They were all DC, mainly Superman, a huge portion of "imaginary stories," red K, Mxyzptlk, and Bizarro.

I'm sure I had read comic strips in the paper before this, but this was my first comic book, left behind by a foster brother when I was 5. (I'm old, the comic was new.) I knew Spider-Man from the cartoon and The Electric Company. Not sure if I had seen the FF cartoon yet. I was hooked right away.

The cover of Marvel Team-Up 88, with Spider-Man and the Invisible Girl, as she was then known.

For people who've been around long enough to have heard all the stories, the thing about this comic is that this is the foster brother who abused me, the earliest of three abusers when I was a kid, so there's a lot of *stuff* tied up in my introduction to comics.

I’m frying chicken that I brined in Indian spiced buttermilk, but we ordered naan, korma, dal, and gobi to go with it, so this might not count as home cooking.

No, there is no "Department of Ancient History," but I had to get into the habit of saying "I have a degree in ancient history" so that fellow middle-aged men realize I don't know shit about World War II or the Civil War and did not read that book about World War II or the Civil War.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.
