There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

A fun history of "soccer" versus "football." Also, it reports, "Wealthy students [in the late 1800s] had 'a habit of shortening words and adding "-er" to the end' to make slang terms. For example: breakfast becomes brekker, rugby became rugger." Does anyone still say "brekker" for breakfast?

Reminding myself that I achieved my biggest dream. I wrote and published an entire nerdy series that I love, complete with hand-drawn cover art in my favourite colours, and it is sitting on my shelf because it's real. A year ago, these physical books didn't exist. That's wild to me.

Was squarely in my happy place at the Stratford Festival in Ontario this week. Storytelling through live theatre is something I've always loved, but it really struck me to the heart this time. Such a communal art, where the audience is part of the working - one with infinite tellings. /1
The new Spider-Man was a fantastic film. Well done to everyone involved! Apparently everyone wants to see it this weekend - my local theatre had to open up more showings. And people clapped at the end! Can't remember the last time that happened.

Shout out to Fanfare Books in Stratford, Ontario, which had Canadian author sections by genre. Of course I came away with more for my TBR! (I also wanted to walk out with the entire folklore and fairy tales section.)
