Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

This idea only sounds insane until you think about it for a second. You adjust your alarm clock, then you get used to it. The only part I wouldn't personally like is that the date would change at a different time. It's less fun staying up until 00:00 on NYE if that is in mod afternoon.

Back in my early 20s I tried to write fiction. I wrote dozens of drafts, hundreds of pages of digital notes, even more scrawled on paper. Then I tried to write an RPG. More notes, more drafts. I'm on to game dev now. More notes, & now code. I have realised that maybe my hobby is just... Typing!?
For a while I was really trying to find the value in using ChatGPT/other models to learn things. I hoped that by doing most of the work myself and using the LLM as a fancy search engine I could actually learn to do things myself... But after months of frustration I've always come away worse off. 1/

A social media ban - like a drug ban - turns the focus to better enforcement of the ban, rather than any efforts to meaningfully improve the underlying issues at play.
Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social · 2mo agoOne of the obvious problems with a under-16 social media ban is that it won't work. (60%+ of Australian under-16s are still using these platforms). But it will make people feel like something has been done so they won't tackle the content, which is the real issue.
All 3 LLMs I tried, when asked about Astrology, presented information about its influence on a person's personality with exactly the same confidence and apparent factuality as if I had asked them about mathematics.
What a bizarre time to be living in, where a Labour government is really doing quite a bit of good environmenally, nationalising the rail services etc... All the while stripping away my rights as a trans person and user of the internet.

Thinking of everyone in the trans community in the UK today. Two days ago the UK government announced London to host IDAHOBIT forum 2027 including these nuggets: “London set to become the global stage for progress on LGBT+ rights” “government funding will advance international LGBT+ equality”
There is no way to see this other than as an attempt to entirely keep us from public life. Because what trans woman would use men's toilets? It's quite often the case that there is no third option, our choices will be either break the law or put ourselves at risk of sexual violence.
