While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.

also, when you introduce violent language into a discussion about something substantive, you shift the focus away from the substantively important thing we're discussing and toward disavowing your beliefs. this is both tedious and some real wrecker behavior.

These people don't know me, nor I them, but I really wish liberals and leftists from urban/suburban areas could get a grip about rural areas. Land doesn't vote. But rural residents deserve basic rights and services. Rural poverty looks very different from urban.

Not the most important point here, but I’m also thinking about those tenure and promotion cases that are screwed because the faculty weren’t able to secure enough external funding for their research. The finances and reward structures of universities are not prepared.

tl,dr; Scientists no longer allowed to use federal funding to publish, attend meetings, or talk to the public. They cannot collaborate internationally. Grants can be cancelled for any reason, at any time, political appointees have a final say over what gets funded, and who gets funded.
