Had to abandon a project because it wasn't working? Good. These things all teach you resilience, patience and determination; the things you need most as a writer.
Makes it sound like she’s leading an unprompted crusade against the film so that we all go ‘what a load of elitist gatekeeping’ when actually she was commissioned by a literary publication to give her opinion as a scholar for people who like to read that sort of thing

Dr Jo Kershaw@mthrjo.bsky.social · last mo.There’s no point in telling the Yanks, but: nobody in the U.K. thinks beans on toast is gourmet food. What it is is cheap, filling, comforting, reasonably nutritious, and very useful indeed if you are low on money or spoons.
And it's not just physical advantages. Who has the support/time/money to go to practices, get equipment, travel etc? What about areas that are under resourced? That's all fine I guess.

Living in Canada there are so many of these trucks and I'm sick of them. I'm reasonably tall and they're up to my chest, a kid stands no chance. Drivers also seem to feel invincible in them as they're the ones most reckless I find. Although I guess blind spots don't help.

On the one hand, baffling to place blame for falling author incomes on libraries (and there are ways you can offset this anyway), on the other, given the state of the world and how libraries are an island of good in a sea of trash, totally on brand.

This is what I've been wondering about these big fanfic to trad pub books. Will the authors have staying power or is it just bam and done? The whole landscape is depressing.

this is also a crisis in publishing as the midlist collapses and publishers chase fanfic or tiktok breakouts and then throw them to the wolves with little support. no one has the time or budget to grow authors while they learn their craft and become better writers, and that was BEFORE AI bullshit.
