There are books I read that I think, yeah I see how this works and what I need to work on to get here. Then there's something like This Is How You Lose the Time War by @amalelmohtar.com and @maxgladstone.bsky.social that makes me wonder what I'm even doing. Great scott this book is good.
It's starting to feel like the general consensus is that everyone that started writing after 2022 is using LLMs. I don't have anything published, much less a body of work that predates LLMs.

Learning to write well, finding an agent, and actually getting published, are already hard enough. Potentially having the added hardship of proving you didn't use AI added on top of that? Disheartening doesn't begin to cover it.

My car got broken into and my partner's purse was stolen. The police basically shrugged and said to look around the park for any of our stuff. A day later they emptied her bank account despite having reported her card as stolen.
brian j.@talkwordy.bsky.social · 4d agoi got mugged at shotgun point. the cops arrested the wrong guy, hustled me out of court at the hearing when i said ”that’s not the guy,” told me “you didn’t see him,” made me do a lineup at the prison and when i said “that’s the guy i saw in court, still not him” told me “it’s OK, he’s a bad person”
We invested billions in a product people don't want and it's their fault it might fail.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
They made the claims because they could. The country moved on and now they can simply drop the charges and go on like they didn't do anything wrong because no one will hold them fucking accountable.
