people always talk about “seasonal depression” when it relates to shortened days and cold, cloudy weather but what about the seasonal depression of it still being over 100 dang degrees in mid-October

When colonization came to call in the US, many folks wrote about america as a pristine Eden whose forest were filled with delights and bounty. This was because indigenous folk (Like mine) built up food forest. Things that were razed and destroyed as a part of racist violence. Colonization is ongoing

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

"this wouldn't have existed without AI anyway, it's not taking away any potential jobs or opportunities" if you do not have the willingness or drive to make something without AI, then it shouldn't exist AI is built off of stolen labor. Want art? Do or fund the labor.

It's so discouraging to see vibe-coded slop take over scenes I would normally be interested. While I'd like to consider taking part in the PS5 jailbreaking scene, seeing people rush to slop together the homebrew tools is really killing my interest.

I've seen a lot of programmers really disrespect themselves thinking that genAI is "fine" when it comes to coding or w/e because it's not "art" Programming is an art. It requires creativity. And you're literally programming graphics, it's visual art. It's just art. It counts. AI coding is AI "art"

Let's talk about AI in VRChat. Be sure to fill out the Google form at the bottom of the article. ask.vrchat.com/t/regarding-...

Localization of dialogue is an art. Building engines and tools is art. Concept art is, well, art. Even placeholding art is art. If design or architecture are art forms then so is any act of building tools or systems. It's all art. And every AI model is built off stolen art, from every art form.

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working. I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

I'm so fucking pissed about this! In iOS 27 it now suggest AI generated responses in the iMessage, and the only way to turn it off is to completely turn off predictive text, which also disables suggesting individual words in the keyboard, a feature that has been there since forever! It's so gross.

If a human did what ChatGPT did, they'd be convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, which can carry a life sentence. It's unconscionable that Canada's legislators are letting OpenAI get away with helping to plan murders. At the very least, it shouldn't be allowed to continue to operate in Canada.

Just when I think I can’t hate OpenAI and Sam Altman any more, new details come out about how ChatGPT helped a shooter plan one of the worst mass shootings in Canadian history in Tumbler Ridge, BC. OpenAI made an explicit decision not to report the user to authorities.
