I hope that the pendulum will swing back eventually. Generative AI is the asbestos of our time - ostensibly useful, terrible side effects, and we're going to be ripping it out of our walls for decades to come.

Obv a lot of sloppers will use a Human Authored badge as part of their author cosplay. I also expect some big names will be too embarrassed or delusional to admit they're not entitled to use it, and get caught out. I'm just not touching it.

Exactly. Everyone is going to say their book is "human authored" whether they used genAI or not. And they're either telling the truth, knowingly lying to make money, or lying to themselves about what authorship means. And you'll never know which it is.

So...he used GenAI to 'summarise' and didn't check the results before copy pasting but put a Human Authored label on his book anyway. Which rather sums up the value of a self certification scheme.

Both the SoA and The Authors Guild in the US have launched kitemarking schemes that can be used on human work to distinguish it from AI-generated books.

Authors can register their books to use a “Human Authored” logo on their back cover, signifying only de minimis tinkering with text by AI such as spelling and grammar checks.

But Rosenbaum’s ill-fated book carried just such a disclaimer.

Reading Wilson's critique of this film was so entertaining, so enjoyable to me, that I feel bad I read it for free. 😂 I'm both grinding my teeth with her, and laughing at how vehemently she hates this frivolous piece of entertainment. 10/10 experience More fun than the film, imo

Incredible venting here. "It lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth. Its narrative structure is gimmicky. The writing is abysmal. None of the characters has convincing motivation for their actions or words. There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible."

Corporate advertising is not about that. It's about MAKING or tricking people into wanting it - by playing on their vulnerabilities or demographics, by using peer pressure, etc - and basically attacking nearly everybody with their dreck to make the most money possible And it fucking sucks

I got some similar advice from my mom when I was dealing with (what in retrospect was likely) postpartum depression and I swear it saved my life. She told me: make sure the baby is alive and fed. *Everything* else can wait. And somehow I dragged myself through it. 🧡🧡🧡

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.
