Everywhere. But most importantly, London, Ontario, Canada. I write a newsletter at https://southernontariojournal.substack.com/

I don't care if this is a bunch of high school football players in Idaho. Writing “Let her hang from a ligh(t) post and let the birds pick at her brain for days” and “(You) think Cornell was bad just wait for us” should be grounds for immediate expulsion and charges filed.

Threats in Timberline football chat lead to police inquiry

A private Timberline High School football group chat sparked outrage with alleged death threats and sexual violence references toward a female student, prompting a Boise Police Department investigatio...

It's quite something. It's long but watch the whole thing. I think it's meant to be an enormous fuck you to the die-hard hard-right rural caucus faction, but it also bascially concedes the party to them, so...

Obby Khan's full statement on resignation as Manitoba PC leader

“If you are staring at an example of social disorder or social inefficiency, and the left refuses to explain either why it has happened or how they will fix it, then the right gets to point at someone in the immediate area and say, ‘That’s who did it.’” crazy how much Mamdani speaks my language

I keep meeting smart informed Albertans who tell me they do not intend to vote, because they don’t want to legitimize the process, or because they know the premier is not bound by the results. But what if making us give up on voting is the whole point? My argument to vote - no matter the absurdity.

In this week’s opinion column, Senator Paula Simons writes about anti-separation Albertans who genuinely believe the best form of protest is to boycott the referendum. While she understands their motives, she warns that staying home will backfire. #ableg #canpoli forwardweekly.ca/simons-cant-...

Having a mayoral election in which one of the candidates is mainly fundraising outside of the city and more has an endorsement from a Michigan state rep is quite something

My most western alienation take is how stunned I am that there's no national conversation about the fact that BC's right wing party is imploding in front of our very eyes, and there's a solid chance that its leader may be criminally charged for attempting to bribe her MLAs.

Another thing to consider. A huge swath of pundits believe that if we just made concessions on their own pet issue (usually supply management), we'd get a perfect deal. Going through the motions puts that argument to bed.

Steve Lafleur@stevelafleur.bsky.social · 2mo ago

"Why negotiate at all?" Because if you glibly say no deal, every mayor, MP, employer, union in the many tariff affected cities will think you aren't taking this seriously. Going through the motion shows who the problem is.

there's a whole lot going on in "AI discourse" but a lot of it arises from people who work in tech still not getting it that the baseline perception of their work has been shifting hard for at least a decade, from "one of the more positive aspects of society" toward a much more ambivalent view

Yes. Spot on. in my own situation it’s a mix of things: I’m doing different things now, for work and leisure. An urbanist in London becomes the most hated person in the city Urbanists not from here can be mean to you when they find out you live in London, a place where I have family and roots

Does anyone else who has been in this livable cities/transportation/bikes etc advocacy thing for multiple years feel a little burnt out? It's not that I don't enjoy doing it, but with all the world chaos, I feel like a lot of it gets lost in the noise.

If we are doing municipal population, 1. Calgary 2. Brampton - I’ve been to Mississauga lots as a kid and twice in 2024, and drove through Caledon once in 2021 taking the long way to Mara Provincial Park. Never ended up making plans to visit Brampton for some odd reason

Questions for all my 🇨🇦 followers: 1. What’s the largest city in Canada that you have yet to visit? 2. What’s the largest city or town in your home province or territory that you haven’t visited yet?
