My only real view on the bew Spider-Man movie: it didn't need the 'main' plot. It could've just filled in with random low-level villain bullshit, because Peter's personal story was more than enough.

grimly funny that in The Dark Knight, Batman’s city-wide surveillance is the moral crucible, the point at which he has clearly gone too far, while in Brand New Day it’s just something that Spider-Man does.
