I'm just going to say it--it is frustrating to watch a comic character not reach the true fandom that craves it because it's not deemed popular in comics. "Mainstream" comics is a TERRIBLE focus group to use to determine whether a black character will be popular in video games or film.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

This whole saga has very much reminded me that most readers (and apparently some fiction writers too!) believe that writing narrative non-fiction is stenography: you find out the facts and then you write them down in order. Whereas it is absolutely, 100% considered storytelling!

Guess I'm as qualified to comment here as anyone, having made my "rep" on historical narrative. Not buying the accusation of plagiarism with which the prof and her allies are filling Bluesky, as I've detailed in other posts. But Tillie and D&Q made a few key mistakes that would have prevented this.

I think this is a good and compassionate take from Keezy. However, publishing contracts usually contain clauses that specifically say any accusations of academic misconduct, plagiarism, inaccuracy etc are on you, the author, not on them, the publisher. Here is what I think happened--
