On Tuesday, I unveiled my plan for more homes and lower rents. This plan, provides both immediate relief and long-term systemic change for renters in the City of Toronto. Learn about ending the tenant tax markup, fixing the family-size unit penalty, and taxing vacant lots 🏘️

Toronto says it wants more affordable homes. But everywhere you look, the incentives are backwards. Renters pay higher property taxes. Family apartments cost more to build than shoeboxes. Vacant land sits untaxed. A fair deal for housing can deliver more homes and lower rents 🏘️

Gabe Blanc is already sparking change at City Hall even before being elected! 8 days after Gabe launched his #FixThe506 campaign with policy to speed up the Carlton streetcar & received hundreds of petition signatures, Councillor Dianne Saxe is putting forward a motion to do the same.

Toronto Transit Commission consideration on July 22, 2026
TTC16.14 - Speeding up the College Streetcar Study - by Commissioner Dianne Saxe, seconded by Chair Jamaal Myers
Consideration Type: ACTION
Recommendations
It is recommended that:
1. TTC Board direct staff, in collaboration with the General Manager, Transportation Services, to report back to this Board in Q1 2027 with recommendations how to improve the speed and reliability of the College Streetcar through measures that are within the control of the TTC.

Thanks to your support, City Councillors are paying attention to our plan to #FixThe506. But without continued pressure, they might settle for little more than lip service to prioritizing public transit. 1/2
