New Brunswick, Canada No conversations about impact before school library positions eliminated. Documents show NB education officials did not assess the impact on students before 32 library positions were eliminated in the Anglophone West School District to save money. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

«When we force people to recognise their own domination &powerlessness, we humiliate them... Once people get a taste for humiliating, they'll fight to keep doing it. Pple will prioritize doing it over their own economic, cultural interests Millions of Americans love Trump cause he humiliates people»

my latest with @liberalcurrents.com humiliation is a deeply unpleasant & immoral act, it's also *politically* important www.liberalcurrents.com/the-politi/

I'm going to be honest here, I think AI is going to do so much damage to the usable internet that even after it's inevitably crashes out, it's going to take years to disentangle from every space it's polluted, like digital asbestos it's gonna be time consuming effort and likely expensive venture.

I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but... the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

a text post from Michael Tonelli: "It's really unbelievable the niche parts of the internet that Al is ruining. My wife looks up crochet patterns online. It's now overrun by Al made up patterns that make no logical sense. My wife said if you tried to crochet the pattern that Al hallucinated, it wouldn't even be possible.
And it's like, why? Why is someone ruining free crochet patterns? How were they even aware of that corner of the internet? Is there a plan to make the internet so unusable that people abandon it so we don't have access to information anymore?"

I do not want AI in Slack. I do not want AI in Google. I do not want AI on Facebook. I do not want AI in documents or spreadsheets. I do not want AI in Adobe Acrobat. I do not want AI in Zoom. I do not want AI on news sites. I do not want AI in the patient portal for my doctor's office. I do not wan

On Greta et al. + "deportation" (of those illegally abducted + trafficked by Israel via an act of war/piracy): - Greta has been "deported" but apparently she and others signed "deportation" order before having chance to consult lawyer as others did - 9 others remain imprisoned for up to 2 weeks

According to Adalah, the activists refused to sign the papers, as that would require them to admit they have committed an offense and cannot enter Israeli territory again.

"Nearly 24 hours after the detention of activists aboard the ship Madleen, which sought to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza, the volunteers are currently being held in a detention facility ... where they are expected to face hearings before their deportation to their home countries," Adalah said in a statement early Tuesday.According to the foreign ministry, "Those who refuse to sign deportation documents and leave Israel will be brought before a judicial authority, in accordance with Israeli law, to authorize their deportation."

According to Adalah, the activists can be legally detained for up to two weeks, the group added. The consuls of the activists' countries of origin have visited them at the airport. The legal center added that the activists said they sailed at sea in circles for hours, and it was unclear why they were held on the water for so long.Adalah added that some of the activists agreed to sign deportation papers before meeting with their lawyers. "They looked very startled," the center added.

Truth-tellers, not rioters. Protect these two men at all costs. “You feel tough with your assault rifles and your sticks. You should be standing here with us. You’re on the wrong side of history.” “John Lewis said make good trouble… that means make trouble on behalf of democracy.”
