"Belgium. Bull-gium. I said to JD, who the hell ever heard of Bullgium? They say our Great Country has 35 times the population. Only a stupid person would say they should have the same number of players on the Pitch as the mighty U S of A! Right, Gianni? Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
All over Norway, sports journalists are preparing for Saturday by working up their own updated versions of, you know, THAT quote.
No one's ever made a jelly in the shape of Donald Trump before so I feel like I'm setting a really bad president.
Just checked my local authority library service (Oxfordshire). Yup. Excellent.
It’s worth checking if your local library service offers press reader. Mine does. So that’s today’s editions of pretty much most of what I ever need free.

The Delphic Oracle told King Croesus of Lydia that if he attacked Persia "a great empire will fall." He saw this as a prediction of victory and attacked. It was his own great empire that fell.

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...
Trump Has a Recipe for War and Corruption, Not Peace

Called in to my local [insert brand of car] main dealer to book a service. Lady at reception told me I could only do it by phone. She did offer me a seat while I phoned the actual building I was in.
We went to a Parisian museum the other day where the staff could only check tickets but not sell tickets so we had to buy them on our phones outside in the rain (and of course you had to create an account etc etc) and I really thought I was going crazy.
"We always think about America’s postwar role in Europe as an act of great generosity, the defense of allies from Soviet aggression. But by putting democracy at the center of our international identity, we also helped strengthen our own political system" www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...
The Beacon of Democracy Goes Dark
For nearly 250 years, America promoted freedom and equality abroad, even when it failed to live up to those ideals itself. Not anymore.

Trump goes on rant about how the limestone he selected for the White House was damaged and how he looked up video surveillance footage to blame a contractor. Trump says he will now charge the contractor for the damage.

Our life is like a play. In our 20s and 30s we’re hoping to make a grand entrance. In our 40s and 50s trying to stay on stage. And in our 60s and 70s hoping to make a graceful exit
