This is an amazing and, in my experience, almost entirely unappreciated benefit of electric vehicles that have vehicle-to-load or -home capabilities. (Most have V2L but few have V2H today.) EV companies should cultivate this capability and hit it much harder in their advertising.
We recently had a ~30hour outage, neighbours were stunned that we even ran the dishwasher powered from the car.
Add Pennsylvania to the list of states with a credible accounting of how disastrous dedication to market fundamentalism has been. We talked about this in our Overcharged report: climateandcommunity.org/research/ove...
Here's an easy and fast fix for energy affordability: rein in the excesses of deregulated electricity. In PA, providers are allowed to hook people with teaser rates. Since 2015, customers have paid $2.2b more than if they'd stayed with a default provider www.post-gazette.com/business/pow...
Ugh. “Mississippi residents who say they were sickened by toxic emissions from bioenergy giant Drax face painful setbacks: an increased pollution quota for Drax & uncertainty about whether a key federally funded study will provide any answers” New story with Alex Rozier & @mississippitoday.org
“Adding wood pellets to the combustion process was well-intentioned—to clean coal [as] the leading method of electricity generation. [Changes since then:] sharp drop in wind & solar prices, new studies showing that the pellets did not fulfill their promises.” #biomass www.forbes.com/sites/kensil...
Are Wood Pellets Worth Billions In Subsidies? Drax Faces A Reckoning

The DOE revealed today that it cancelled some $30 billion in loan guarantees for Biden-era clean energy projects and is "revising" another $53 billion worth. Those numbers include public cancellations from last year like Grain Belt, but the remainder is ???? heatmap.news/sparks/83-bi...

Why are electric bills so high? If your monopoly utility spends $10 million on wires and transformers, your state will let them increase prices to recover the $10M plus ~$1M per year, every year for the foreseeable future. You and your neighbors will pay ~$35M for ~$10M of infrastructure.
Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide! It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers. It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
In 2024, 7,100 pedestrians were killed on the road, and in recent years, more than 1,000 cyclists have been hit and killed annually. Safety experts explain how bikers and walkers can stay safe.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it). But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that
