Based on the overwhelming consensus that I’ve heard in both public feedback and private conversations from government officials, service providers, encampment residents, and public health experts, I do not believe we are prepared to responsibly close the encampments beginning tomorrow.

St. Paul prepares to clear homeless encampment amid questions

On July 8, citing a growing number of fires, fatal overdoses and reported sexual assaults, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her announced plans to close the city’s three largest homeless encampments on a rolling...

(CW: sexual harassment) I’ve given a lot of thought to the news surrounding the conduct of the Mayor, but I’ve struggled to attach a word to how I feel. The closest I’ve gotten is “heartbroken” in a number of ways. 1/

I have been following the story of St. Paul Mayor Kaoly Her’s repeated sexual harassment of city employees, and in light of this statement it is clearly time for her to resign her position as mayor. This is a breach of ethics and trust, and for Her to refer to it as “attempts at humor” is galling.

Text of St. Paul Mayor Kaoly Her’s statement on the allegations of sexual harassment as reported by Lou Raguse. It reads:
“Mayor Kaohly Her:
As Mayor, I take my responsibility to treat every employee with professionalism and respect very seriously. I recognize that some of my attempts at humor fell short of the standard I expect of myself. We have fully cooperated with the independent
investigation since it began in April and will continue to do so. I respect the investigative process and believe it is important to allow it to reach its conclusion. I remain confident that the full facts will come to light, and I will continue to focus on serving the people of St. Paul with integrity and dedication."

Olivia Dean was terrific tonight. She's got a great voice and true warmth and presence on stage. She's already big with young women and once other folks realize she's not kids' stuff, she has got the potential to be massive. Here's my review (gift link):

Went to see Olivia Dean at Target Center tonight— what a talented, profound, and all around beautiful performer! It was so refreshing to see a show that celebrated the joy of love and togetherness, and I think I’ll be talking about it for a long time.

Today, I was honored to spend my morning in St. Cloud, where I was reelected as the Minnesota Young DFL Vice President for the Twin Cities. In 2018, I attended my first doorknock. I was just 10 years old, but I ended up loving the experience. 1/

This shit with Taylor Farms is exactly what I’m talking about when I say you may say you “don’t do politics,“ but politics are more than happy to do you. The microbes political bribes got out the door and into your intestines don’t particularly care that you find it all beneath you.

We will be hosting our first fundraiser of the new term on Thursday, July 16 at Utepils Brewing! Meet your new Minneapolis DFL party officers, mingle with neighbors, and donate an amount meaningful to you so we can put on events, support our candidates, and save for the future!

Flag at half staff on Edgecumbe today. I’m using it to remember the 26 year old that was murdered by our federal government this morning in Maine. May he rest in peace. His name was Joan Sebastian Guerrero. He was 26 years old. His 3 year old child was in the backseat of the car.

Minnesota has been dealing with the most despicable violence from federal agents, with help from local law enforcement, as a result of racist rhetoric like this for months. At a time when law enforcement should be rebuilding trust with the community, Bob Fletcher continues spewing this rhetoric.

Sheriff Bob Fletcher called Somali gang activity an “obvious problem” in a video posted to social media. Some community leaders warn it could further anti-Somali sentiment.
