thanks to @quillmatiq.com, Bluepy now supports logging into to alternative AppViews, like @rude1.blacksky.team's Blacksky which is where i'm sending this post from try it out at https://bluepy.social

Heartbreaking. And a wake-up call. It is no longer about being difficult to find a way to sustain yourself through your work online. It is no longer sustainable to keep a website up now. Axel has done so much for the web and all of us. Buy one of his books if you can. We've learned so much from him.

2ality blog: temporarily offline

Dear visitor! Two things happened recently:

- The income from my book sales went from being enough for me to live off (2024) to zero (2026).
- The traffic to my blog and my books (which were free to read online) increased beyond what I can currently afford. Virtually all of it comes from AI crawlers, so there is no ad income.

Therefore, I’m taking my blog and my books offline so that I can decide what to do next – especially w.r.t. AI companies stealing my work. This may take a while (think months): I don’t have any energy to deal with this right now.

I apologize for this (hopefully temporary) inconvenience to my human readers! You can still buy my books at Payhip.

1/ I’m still processing what’s going on in tech at the moment. I used to feel at home in that world. It used to feel incredibly creative and positive. Now it’s increasingly full of bugs, dark addicting patterns and AI slop. 2ality.com

The main functionality I wanted from Phanpy for an Atmosphere client was the Catch-Up feature, and @alice.mosphere.at's Atmosphere fork Bluepy already has it working. No more having to scroll feeds, I can just...catch-up... 🥹

A screenshot of Bluepy's Catch-up feature (in beta), showing a digest of 1,533 posts from May 8, 2026 between 11:09 AM and 1:10 PM. The interface displays a post volume histogram, avatar row of top posters, sort/filter controls, and a scrollable list of posts from various accounts including The Verge, Eric Migicovsky, and others discussing topics like LLM interfaces, DOGE, ATProto PDS hosting costs, and Pebble watchfaces.

Porting Phanpy to the Atmosphere has been on my list for a while (actually attempted it a couple times), so this is...this is amazing. Already warned @alice.mosphere.at that I'll be sending PRs and/or forking it. Phanpy is the best social media client I've ever used, and the Atmosphere needs it.

I don't think tech at large understands how hard it is to be an open source maintainer right now. So many great folks are on the brink of burnout. Funding is drying out. We live in a security minefield. Companies think humans are disposable. If you're a maintainer, we care. You deserve the world.

That D0, D1 indicators look cool 🤔 Thoughts: - Not sure how that minimap would also visualized nested threads/replies 🤔 if there's any nested UI? - Wondering how filter would affect replies of a thread, conversations might "cut off"? Looks like only can filter by author? 🤔

New Thread View + Minimap A blend of both new and familiar elements, the reimagined @anisota.net thread viewer makes reading replies so much better. ➳ Navigate via an interactive minimap ➳ Search thread or filter by author ➳ Jump to specific posts instantly anisota.net
