‼️ACTION ALERT: The Senate Commerce Committee is holding “kids safety” circus again, this time considering both KOSA (the Kids Online Safety Act) & SCREEN Act, two of the most dangerous censorship & age verification bills on the table! CALL YOUR LAWMAKERS & TELL THEM TO OPPOSE 📲 248-331-8665

The image is a graphic poster with a vibrant red background and contrasting dark purple text. At the top, it contains the message: “Senate Commerce Committee is taking up KOSA + SCREEN Act THIS WEDNESDAY” in bold white letters. Below this, in a larger, informal handwriting-style font is the phrase “TAKE ACTION” in yellow. At the bottom of the image is a phone number, “248-331-8665,” displayed inside a rounded rectangle in dark purple. The overall layout is eye-catching and designed to attract attention to the call for action regarding legislation.

I don't have time to write about this, but the idea that Bluesky is a far left social network is standard propaganda in the culture war to neutralize Bluesky's influence on politics. This narrative is a routine trap designed to force Bluesky to give ground to the far right. (1/4)

since our public beta launch many have asked - what is Blacksky and how is it different from Bluesky? here’s the short answer. we’ll share more in a longer article this week 🙏

Blacksky features that set us apart from Bluesky; - Community only posts: Blacksky.app users can share posts only for each other to see - Human, community-centered moderation: The 1st social media app to moderate for anti-Black harassment, misogynoir, ableism & fatphobia

Finally deleted bluesky off my phone, which means I'm finally completely off of bluesky to max extent it's possible! This makes me happy. You, dear reader, are statistically my most likely connection to it now.

Reading about intercommunalism and pondering what a 60+ year old revolutionary intercommunalist enterprise network might look like today if the FBI hadn't gone after the Black Panthers. What would our tech landscape look like today if built around distributed business networks instead of big corps?

🔥 The Blacksky mobile app is here. Today we're opening up our public beta on both iOS and Android. If you've been waiting for a native mobile experience, now's your chance to try it before our full public launch and help us make it even better. 🧵👇

Super proud to be writing about co-op history for a publication that is co-op future, because the future is past is future, and how we choose from the past is choosing the future

FREE for all: @ntnsndr.in on how Luddism is not the end. Featuring an extremely insightful and stirring observation from @rushkoff.com We made it free for everone to read because this post is what @flaminghydra.com is about. flaminghydra.com/issue-617/

Is there a way to hide specific people within a specific feed? I have a bunch of very prolific mutuals who dominate my mutuals feed and it's keeping me from following my followers who are also incredibly prolific. Maybe I need to create my own mutuals feed that excludes my favorites. (Yes, you <3)

The web is an emergent intersection of the *engines* that implement it. Right now three companies have the *power* to decide what the web is. More engines is how we *distribute power* to decide the future of the web.

@servo.org way ahead of all the other browser engines with a perfect score on WebCrypto tests: wpt.fyi/results/WebC... Remember that when you think that "the web can't change". It can, it's just being held back by incumbents.

Nvidia graphics card drivers on Linux cropped out on me and it's taken me hours to diagnose and figure out. I took my computer apart and everything before realizing it was a software issue. How does nvidia have all this money and their Linux support is still such a headache? What a waste of time.

This is 1000% why I'm doing the Cloud Atlas project. The ecosystem is making TOOLS for PEOPLE to DO things with but mostly getting stuck on the tools part in explanations. (Also I think there's enormous value in the connections *between* tools.) www.wrecka.ge/launching-a-...

Launching a Cloud Atlas

The right questions to arrive with—and the right structure for what comes out of the interviews—are not completely obvious. So I’ve been spending some time thinking about clouds.

Plea to #ATproto developers & companies: Pleasepleaseplease make it easier for the rest of us to help boost your apps & tools by creating good, clear documentation geared toward non-techie users? (not just fellow developers or internal team).🤞🏽 See my post on @leaflet.pub.

Good roundup of ways artists can use the atmosphere, w/ cool resources like feeds & starter packs, community news (TIL about artfuck!) & even a featured artist spotlight! (and yes we <3 feedback if you have other ideas for Leaflet, or things you'd like to see from other tools, integrations, etc!)

Here's my first @leaflet.pub Field notes report. It's both a cultural report and a bit of a guide of other ways to experience the community outside of bluesky!

A new version of SkySpace is up now. This is a COMPLETE REBUILD full of bugfixes and QoL improvements. Briefly: it is stronger! Faster! You can upload pictures! Cycle colours! Commit font crimes for days! There's cleaner editing! You can drag & drop your Top 8 or just X your friends INTO THE BIN!

Living with executive dysfunction especially sucks when you've done a ton of work that's nearly ready to ship and you have no clue how to prioritize which to take the last mile first so they're all blocked up at the last mile. Ugh.

Irritating part of the AI ecosystem* is this reflex to create coded vocabulary that builds an unnecessary barrier to entry. MCP? Oh, you mean an API. Skills? Oh, you mean docs. Evals? Oh, you mean tests. * to be fair, this is actually any group of humans who want to differentiate Their Shiny Thing™

apenwarr@apenwarr.ca · 3w ago

Alarmed at this trend of people finally realizing MCP is a pointless abstraction, then skipping right over publishing a regular boring API, and instead launching new CLIs for agents to use for some reason. It’s baffling.
