Interesting write up of the prototype @heat-geek.bsky.social NanoStore - a combined heat exchanger and 60l hot water store. It’s still early days, but when this finally works, it will offer a route for space critical heat pump installations, with the heat pump ~ working like a combi boiler.

To make the switch to clean energy easier, we should aim for lower electricity prices, not higher ones. Lower electricity prices would encourage more people to use heat pumps 💚

Although it currently is a job, I wouldn’t class ‘heat pump system designer’ as a job @dominiclavelle.bsky.social. Heating system design is something all heating engineers should know and will be forced to lear or get digital tools to do.. a separate ’system designer’ will be quickly phased out.

Related: I have 3 kids... out of interest how would you rate a career as an electrician / heat pump system designer for people soon to enter the workforce? I would have thought knowing how to work with electrons is going be a very useful skill for a long time to come?

THE NUMBERS ARE IN! It’s been a full year since @skillbuilderuk challenged us with a heat pump system that may have proved they don’t work in UK housing stock A typical UK property that was nearly 150 years old with uninsulated solid brick walls and a heat pump that cost a 2 x more than the boiler

Buying a boiler no longer makes any logical sense - You can now get a heat pump for less upfront cost than a boiler - cover finance cost with fuel bill savings - GUARANTEE a minimum efficiency. Oh + studies show house value increases 1.7-3% too. (5-9k on a £300k home) shorturl.at/Fv9ay
