I remember Twitter during the early days of the alt right. This reminds me of their recruitment pipeline: scifi jokes repurposing the tropes of racism to talk shit about people from fictional low-g orbital colonies, getting people accustomed to jokes in that format, brainstorming fictional slurs

The worst part is that everybody is going to lose money, not just the people who are falling for this scam.

No, I think it is because both the domestic and international conditions of the world, as experienced as a citizen of this country, have deteriorated in such a significant way that they would be considered alien only 2 years ago. For example, I regularly see secret police kidnap my neighbors.
