Really interesting fracture morphology to this zircon (from an Archean shear zone in s. Ontario's Superior Craton). It looks positively dilated in the brittle realm: onion skin style sheeting along growth bands and then further blown apart along those new intracrystal mechanical discontinuities. ⚒️

Sarah McAnulty, Ph.D.@sarahmackattack.bsky.social · 17h agoI'm weirdly finding that as I get older, it's easier to learn new skills, which is the opposite of what I thought was supposed to happen. I don't think we're giving enough credit to a lifetime of built skills. When new skills have overlap w/existing ones it greases the wheels for the new.

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
