Potentially Sphagnum divinum growing in a very nice and quaking bog in Coolvoy bog SAC, Donegal. Can't say I am certain as I find the field characteristics tricky but based on pore sizes in the branch leaves I would place my bet on S. divinum

So many oaks revealing themselves in coill Bhearna where the big storm knocked down a load of beech trees (+ some oak). Looks like the perfect opportunity to encourage native trees rather than than allow beech to dominate again in time @galwaycity.ie @irishwoodlandtrust.bsky.social (1/2)

Six different tree species clumped together in an area of natural regeneration on the edge of Coill Sheanadh Gharráin in Connemara. No forester would plant Oak, Birch, Willow, Rowan, Holly & Hazel like this. Rewilding is crucial, because we can neither predict nor replicate what nature will do.

Fantastic seeing our @ukceh.bsky.social Wallingford office putting its mowing where its mouth is. Flower-rich grassland all around buildings & car parks. What can you expect from a bunch of farmland & grassland ecologists?! But it's managed by regular landscaping contractors, so anyone could do it.

Was lovely to be invited by NPWS to give a talk in Laragh for biodiversity week. Always lovely to talk moss and people stayed and looked at some samples afterwards :-)

Day two of the BBS meeting in Slovenia. First a visit to the Juliana Botanic Gardens and then a walk down the Soca valley where we saw many interesting plants including Mannia triandra, seen here with Marchantia quadrata.

Trichophorum cespitosum, Northern deergrass from a Schoenus Campylium stellatum dominated fen in na Monga, Conamara during the week. Also growing with Sphagnum platyphyllum and an unidentified Utricularia, lovely relevé indeed. Associates in post below (1/2)

We had a great turnout for our bat walk last night in Terryland Forest Park! Big thanks to ecologist @scottbastow.bsky.social for leading the walk and helping the local community learn more about our winged neighbours

Platanthera bifolia, Selaginella selaginoides and Pedicularis sylvatica subsp. hibernica and Pinguicula vulgaris from the Cooley Mountains, Co. Louth (H31) I suspect there are many lesser butterfly-orchids on upland wet heath and blanket bogs lurking out there!

Another species from the Ailnack gorge in haven't seen before, Pseudoleskeella catenulata, a montane species that forms cylindrical shoots ,here a lovely yellow colour ,but can be brownish or olive green ,here on a Crag ledge a hundred yards upstream from the Castle,nice @bbsbryology.bsky.social

Five years on & my gardens are an absolute paradise - 100s of orchids, 1000s of grasshoppers and so much more! All I did was plant native wildflowers plus mow ot twice a year, removing clippings each time. Low maintenance ✅ Amazing for wildlife ✅ What’s not to love?! 🌱❤️
