Publisher in this piece says “If an author has used AI to help support their research for a nonfiction book, that’s fine. But… that means that we now need together to apply another layer of human research to make sure that the facts are actually true.” So it’s not fine really, is it?

Typical of UK gov that, if a uni goes bust, their only concern is what happens to current students and not any of the thousands of staff who will lose jobs, not to mention small local businesses reliant on universities for custom, or future working class students who will be robbed of opportunity.

Seeing sequential posts on my feed about JKR and the Exeter Uni redundancies highlights a genuinely good cause she COULD be using her platform and money to advocate for (as an alum of Exeter), rather than what she actually does spend her time doing which is degrading and harassing trans people on X.

The 2 most recent novels I've read are BLACK BAG by my fab colleague @lukekennard.bsky.social and WOODWORKING by not-colleague @emilystjams.bsky.social. While VERY different, they're both about how gender is beautiful and weird and can make people crazy. Strong rec for both!

Researching digital culture is such a double-edged sword. Just found out by accident that a website containing material I'm using for research is being updated and it looks like a host of data might not be migrated. Now I'm spending my day frantically saving as much as I can in the wayback machine.
